AC failed just after having a new alternator fitted.

Featured Replies

The alternator on mine packed up last Thursday and I had arranged for a mobile mechanic to come and replace it me, which he did today. However since he fitted it and restored the charging again, I have zero A/C but prior to him fitting the alternator I was enjoying ice cold ai, so I'm guessing that the compressor is close to the alternator on the car and in fixing the alternator , I can now only get warm air and I get this report when scanning the ECU's.

I assume the compressor and alternator are in the same location on the engine and that indicates, he has dislodged the electrical connector for the electric clutch?

Probably had to unscrew and lower the compressor to make room to drop alt out downwards, then forgot to plug the compressor back in after refitting. Control valve, not clutch.

Did the same myself on the Roomster recently.

Could reach from above to reconnect on that, doubt you'll have as much luck, but have a look.

Hi , although new have a new alternator on your car they don't fully charge the battery.

On stop start does not work until engine temp correct , the brain might not let the a/c engage.

Just a thought

Thanks Pete, that was what I thought, there does not seem to be anyway through from the top, pulled the cover off and it is jammed full of pipe etc so it looks like the only way through is either from below or through wheel arch. I phoned the mechanic, so I'll have to wait for him to call me back, there is zero way that I could get down that low these days to do it myself.

When he handed to car back there was all kinds of error messages, cleared them all down apart from ones that were before, seat memory ones and a an air quality sensor for the rear passengers and the only new one was the one posted. Start/stop etc are all now working fine.

Just been out to do a small shop as car not moved since Thursday and now there are very strange noises emanating from area of the car and no its not belt slip or squeal, its like a rumble / rubbing and sometimes a buzzing noise. very strange never heard anything like it before.

Left the mechanic a voice mail, just have to wait for now.

I have, just waiting for him to phone me back to sort it out.

Have you used this bloke before, Graham? I ask as he seems to’ve boogered something going in or coming out. If he’s reputable, he should be round to you today but if he is reluctant to, well….

No, I have never used him before. Out of desperation after phoning many garages, including the Skoda one and got fed up being told they were fully booked as far as 11th July I turned to company called clickmechanic ltd who act as agents for many mobile mechanics. I just need a car, public transport just doesn't cut it, a total wast of time, even if free to me.

Hi , let's hope all is good.

Yes, all appears to be good, icy cold again and the strange noises I heard have apparently gone as well, so all is good again. One thing he did point out to me is that he thought I had diesel knock and suggested that either get some or do it myself is to re torque the injectors as the copper washer does normally require a slight pinching up after a while as it compresses down. he thinks that should cure my slight diesel knock.

Hi Graham, just wondering if you happened to sell your car by any chance? I was looking at a vehicle and I think it was yours and was trying to find out more information!

Yes. I did sell my car and recently, where was the car that you were looking at and do you have the registration plate details?

It's currently on AT BT66 DNF in Lava Blue although the seller doesn't seem to want to send me any info on service history because of 'GDPR' I would have sent a message but I don't have enough posts (don't actually own a Skoda yet, been lurking on and off for months)

Hell yes, that is my old car but it is in fact petrol blue, not lava blue. Is the seller offering any form of warranty with the car?

2016 Blue SKODA Superb 2.0 TDI Laurin & Klement Hatchback 5dr Diesel DSG Auto 6Spd Euro 6 (s/s) (150 ps) for sale for £6,495 in AMERSHAM, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE

I can tell you that the service history is extensive, I have spent a lot on it myself, it has had a new alternator, 4 new tyres, new pressure sensor on the number 3 glow plug, New N/S/F shock (DCC) new O/S/F coil spring, new front suspension bushes, new headlight leveler control unit.

I don't know if they are offering anything, struggling to find any real info on the dealership. Do you know if there were any gremlins or any big ticket things due soon on it? (Looking to upgrade from a Mazda 3 BK that I paid £950 for 5 years ago) so it's a 'big spend' for me although it might not seem it. I assume the whole thing with the Macpherson strut was all resolved right? That's how I actually matched it to yourself in the end

I have sent you a message with my email address as I know that you said you couldn't send any yet due to not having enough posts, but you should be able to receive messages, have a look.
