surge protection

Featured Replies

In the argos catalogue there are various extension leads with differing amps protection.

Is 13500 sufficient for a pc systems and some peripherals?

not sure but heres a tip. get a surge protection 'adapter' as opposed to a trailing socket with it built in. They are more flexible and because the surge protection has a limited lifespan they often come with a built in alarm to indicate when the surge protection has failed. Better than losing your equipment because you failed to notice the surge protection lamp had gone out a few days before.

FYI these things are ok against surges but don't count on them for lighting last year i was awoken at 6 am by thunder sounded like a bomb going off

got up a bit later to find everything other than the "white goods" in the kicthen completely dead even my boiler and shower

the house wasnt struck by lighting insurance said maybe static dmage

still none the wiser as to what did to this day

but my point is the surge protector didnt protect anything

Make sure there's a telephone socket protector as I have seen many a dead modem/router following storms.

Out of curiousity, did you have one of those RCD(?) things fitted at the main fuse box?

(I don't know if it would have made any difference actually, but just have visions of the static running round all your ring mains so might have arrived at the main source?)

Mo

had trip switches but were a bit old
