Yeti's Bolero radio is problematic

Featured Replies

The Bolero radio in my wife's Yeti (on a 66 plate) has gone on the fritz! It started a couple of years ago when a 2cm wide edge at the left of the touchscreen became unresponsive, but now it's losing radio stations in mid-programs and it's problematic to get the presets back. It can still be controlled somewhat through the steering wheel buttons, but again this is not reliable.

Does the Collective have any recommendations for repair shops that could reliably fix problems with Boleros? We're located in the vicinity of Warrington, if that helps. Ta!

Can't help with the presets issue but you can fix the screen yourself for £25.

It wasn't that difficult and I'm no DIY guru ! Maybe do that job first ?

Sounds good. Thanks. Any pointers where I can get the replacement (and how to do the changeover)? Are we going eBay, or somewhere more sophisticated?

There is a thread somewhere on here - I got mine from a UK supplier on eBay and watched a really good step by step guide on YouTube (I think for the identical VW version). I also needed a small set of small (torx?) screwdrivers for the diddy screws that secure the metal casing.

If you are methodical, it's easy - Just doing things in order and not losing the screws ! The only mistake I made was that I un slotted the SD Card holder at some point and hadn't pushed it all the way down into its slot so I had to take the Bolero out again. Screen has been perfect ever since.

I just want to close out this thread with a success story. But first, my personal vote of thanks to you, Prezafab, for your guidance.

I took your suggestion that the digitizer probably needed replacement and did more research. What I discovered was that a whole raft of suppliers sold digitizers and there were many types of them. In the end I bought a new set of torx-like screw drivers and some trim removal tools and pulled the radio from the car taking guidance from a YouTube vid produced by “BrokenFixed”. Once out, I could read the part number from the back of the screen assembly and used that to order a replacement from eBay. It cost all of £10 including P&P!

Now management has a fully working radio in her Yeti.

Again, many thanks.

Good stuff !
