Two questions for Roomster owners, please

Things are settling down a little with the major problems on our recently acquired Roomster, so it's time to try to solve a couple of more minor things.

First and most annoying, the panoramic roof shades. Whether open, shut or somewhere in between, there's a buzzing noise coming from them intermittently; always the same pitch and volume when it does happen. Is this a common thing? How to fix please!?

It's not hugely loud, but quite an annoying noise when it's happening. Sometimes seems to go away if you pinch the two handles together when they're fully shut. Can't really drive safely with one hand holding those tight together though.

Secondly, the parcel shelf gap. There's a fair sized gap between front edge of parcel shelf and rears of the rear seats. Enough that a thief could readily see if there is or isn't something in the boot. This isn't something daft like I've been given the wrong parcel shelf by the previous owner is it?

If it's normal, what do folks do to alleviate this problem? I know the outer seats can be reclined a bit, which helps close the gap, but not completely, and the middle seat doesn't, I don't think? Reclining also reduces the available space in the boot.

Seems odd.

Hi Pete,

The parcel shelf gap is normal. Skoda used to sell a flexible plastic "thing" that bridged the gap but I considered it a Heath Robinson at best and an eyesore at worst. I used to cover the contents of the boot with a large black towel. Anyone looking through the tinted side windows sees only black in the gap between parcel shelf and rear seats.

Sorry I can't help with the roof shades as mine were silent. But I have read on here of one owner who used a clothes peg (or similar) to hold the shades together.

Good luck with the Roomster and I enjoy your thread. I consider my Roomster Scout the best car I have owned in more than fifty years of motoring and I still regret selling it.

Useful to know, thanks.

I'll have to try to come up with something simple, like buy her a black blanket; she likes blankets. 😁

The shades do fit together properly (magnets, I've been told?), but still buzz.

that gap is awful 🤣 but, id say if you got out the sewing kit and and a hot glue gun ,you could put a strip of black cloth from the parcel shelf to the seats with some popper buttons.

then make lots more to design that works and sell them to roomster owners 😉

Crikey that makes the shelf/ seat gap ratio on our Yeti look tiny in comparison. I would have thought a retractable roller blind type job would have neen much better tbh
On the roof blinds, just an idea but maybe a thin strip of self-adhesive draught excluder maybe?

On the Roomster, can slide the back seats, so I assume the big gap is with the seats in the forward position.

Can also have gap at sides if you take the middle seat out, and relocate the others to the inwards position.

Never had any buzzing from the panoramic roof blinds in the 10 years we had a roomster (but did open on their own occasionally)

The parcel shelf gap cover was known as a Luggage Cover, part DMK770005. Mine, (in 2010/2011), clipped (not Velcro'd) at the back onto the parcel self, with plastic arms to the fornt which clipped onto the outermost rear headrests (i.e. in 3, not 2, seater mode). Certainly a bit Heath Robinson, but necessary to cater for (some) of the many possibliiies of rear seat back positioning!

Nice one John, thanks for the part number.

Could be still available, at first glance. 😀

Edit: ^ Not according to Fish Bros in Swindon, tried to order yesterday.

LLL parts are showing it at nearly £40 plus no doubt a good chunk of postage cos of the length of the thing. Will have to make something instead.
