Thinking of switching off remap

Featured Replies

As above. We're off on holiday to Ireland this week and I'm thinking of switching my Star remap back to standard for the trip to get the best possible mpg. The other mods (CAI, downpipe and exhaust) will obviously stay, but I'm wondering how I'll cope with the loss of 40 bhp :mad:

We've a long way to go and I'm skint :( so I need to eke the maximum out of each tankful.

And on the roads of West Clare the use of 231 bhp isn't normally required (or wise) :D:D

surely the mpg can't be much different if driven gently? Indeed a decent remap should run a fair risk of improving off-boost mpg..

If you drive gently a remap shouldn't do any damage to your MPG.

Just stick to speed limits and don't accellerate harshly and you'll get much better consumption

switch off the remap? never! you will regret it if u bump into any of the briskoda boys down there. :D they are mad. you will need every horse u have m8. have a good hol

Fuel economy with remap was better for me then before when not driving too fast :)

keep the map. loose the luggage.

I can get a good 38mpg when on a run.. and my cars chipped, Turn yourself into Grandad mode to get there then enjoy:thumbup:

That doesnt take alot for Matchmaker ;);)

Although this was in a Fabia vRS not an Octy, my MPG dropped loads when remapped, mainly because I had no self control and made the most of that remap :( :D

Saying that, I still got 40 mpg, I am struggling to keep the '2 in the 30's now

If I behave properly I can hit 50+ mpg doing NSL plus (very minor) margin if safe.

I managed to get < 20 mpg this weekend by trashing the living cr*p out of the car (not exceeding speed limits in particular, just revving it (too) hard)

Average when not going too crazy is high 40s tho

Got my remap turned off at the moment on a petrol saving mission

although the remap is better when crusing on motorways etc im finding it hard to stay at low revs in first and second gear

the second it comes on boost the revs want to go flying

with the remap off its at least easyer to drive at lower revs :o

Switched off the remap today. Down to only about 195 bhp :( :(

But getting an average 5 mpg better - which when we're planning a 1000 mile round trip is not to be sneezed at

But if I do meet any of these crazy Irish Briskoda lads, it's only a 3 minute job to put the map back on :D :D :D :D

Answered your own question then, by the time you switch back they'll be 5 miles up the road. LOL.

Leave it off, any fabia driver would be happy with 195bhp.

Shame he has an Octavia then.

I get upto 10 mpg more with remap off but miss the extra oomph. Think i'll have to cut costs for a while petrol now

my jabba remap on my superb 1.9TDI increased the mpg. it's a long way from manchester to peterborough, and despite giving it a heavy right foot on the way back to test it out, mpg increased by 2 on the return journey. it'll suffer if you hammer it but if you lift that right foot the mpg won't suffer from a (decent) remap. the tuning boxes that just overfuel *will* hit economy though.
