Weird water ingress 2015 L&K estate

Featured Replies

Evening. I have a lovely 2015 estate. Yesterday, we had some SERIOUSLY heavy rain, a real good thunderstorm. Afterwards I got in the car and noticed water near the driver footwell. The door looks like it has 3 different seals and all three were dry. Further investigation tracked it higher to the area where the fuses are under the “Airbag” side cover. All seems dry in there, mild steel with zero rust.

Did wonder if the drain holes near the wipers were blocked and they were to some extent. I’ve cleared that.

Not windscreen wash either.

We’ve had another equally heavy downpour today but no further ingress as far as I can tell.

Anything to worry about or just keep an eye on it and put it down to freak weather?

If you have an l&k chances are it has a sunroof? They are notorious for leaking.

There are quite a few threads on here with possible solutions. I've got the same issue with my Sharan at the minute. Until I get time to properly investigate it I've taped the seals. It's worked for now until I haveb the time.

It occurred again.

I've tried hosing the sunroof /windscreen/door/skuttle but can't get it to repeat.

I've now pulled the cover off the A pillar and shove kitchen roll behind it to see if it's coming from the sunroof.

Does it not show AT ALL on the roof lining.

Will search here for other related issues.

Check your windscreen is still bonded.

Turned out to be cause of my soaked foot well.

Could push the screen up from inside, water was running down the inside of the A pillar trim

Cheers. I’m 99% certain it was the sunroof drain hole. I could pour water down the passenger side drain hole and it’d exit from a gromit in the door frame. Try the same thing in the drivers side and the water just sat up top.

I poked around the gromit and removed some crud ( I wanted to send a wire down the tube but couldn’t get it to go) then water flowed out.

I poured several litres of water through and the flow increased to match the passenger side.

The carpet has now dried.

I’m going to monitor the area and ensure the whole remains unblocked.

As per the above comment, check the windscreen seal too. Mine has failed and lets water in at the top
