All in plan warranty confusion

Featured Replies

My 1.0 ltr SE-L is due a service and as usual I phoned the dealer (Marshalls) to get a price to compare with a local VAG independent. The service agent convinced me to consider buying an all in service plan but on checking the T&Cs on the Skoda website, they stated that the warranty provided with the plan would not apply if a car already had any warranty or guarantee already in existence. I bought the car in December 2023 and bought a 2 year Marshalls extended warranty and therefore I queried this with the agent at the dealer who replied that although it was 'technically correct' that the car had an existing warranty in place, because it was a Marshalls warranty rather than one provided by Skoda, then it would not prevent me from getting the warranty provided under the care plan. Being somewhat cautious, I phoned Skoda UK and after being shunted between various departments for half an hour, I finally spoke to someone who, after going to check with someone else, confirmed that the Skoda warranty under the service plan would not apply due to the existing Marshalls policy. So is this a case of incorrect information being given by the dealer (who admittedly sounded confident in her information) or alternatively by an agent at Skoda, who in contrast to the dealer's agent, sounded somewhat unsure? Grateful for any advice or opinions.

Was the car new in 2023 with a 3 years manufacturers warranty and an Extended Warranty bought for another 2 years?

Or when was the car first registered, how old in 2023?

EDIT.

Looking at your profile is the car a 2020 & out of Warranty 2023?

Was it a Skoda Approved used car or not but with a 1 year warranty and you paid extra to have 2 years?

What is the expiry date of the Marshals Warranty? IS IT DECEMBER 2025?

Who is that Warranty with? The underwriter / company?

How many miles on the car and what servicing does it need. What was done when 4 years old?

The car is a 2020 model bought by me in 2023 from a main Skoda dealer with a 1year manufacturer warranty. I bought an extended 2 year dealers warranty which runs until December 2026. My main reason for pursuing this is that from reading posts on this and other forums, the Skoda warranty that is included with the service plan is more comprehensive than the dealer's policy. Although I highly rate the car, the thought of replacing an indicator unit or battery does concern me a little.

Is an Indicator Unit included in an Extended Warranty, or a Battery.

Get in Writing from Marshal or Skoda UK Customer Services Contractor the T&C,s of the All in Service plan warranty.

Dealing with the various 'People' without the answer is a total PITA.

With Skoda Approved Extended Warranty there used to be a nice commission for the employee signing you up.

That must be gone. Or they want that for being of no actual help.

Thank you. I have emailed the agent at the dealer and suggested that she talk to someone at Skoda to try to agree on who is right on this. Until then, they won't get my custom and I will get the car serviced by a local VAG independent.

The annoying thing about "All In" is the servicing isn't "all in" at all - you've got to pay extra for things like brake fluid changes plus anything else the car "needs" beyond the most basic of servicing.

Quite how VW Group gets away with this I have no idea.

I think I am right in saying the All-In-One service plan and warranty is available for cars up to 6 years old. Have you considered remaining with your existing 2 yr dealer warranty until it expires in Dec 25 and then take out the All-In-One service plan with the warranty. Doesn't solve your current need to get the car serviced now, given you have a Marshall 2 yr warranty may be worth sticking with them for this service. My experience is that Marshalls are more receptive to dealing with warranty claims when they are servicing the car. I know it shouldn't be a factor. Even the independent garage I've used for the last 20 years has advised me to that with all the used cars I've bought hat still have manufacturers warranty left.

What service is it actually due?

Were the spark plugs changed at 4 years / 40,000 miles.

Was the pollen filter changed last year.

Has the brake fluid been changed.

Has the Air Filter ever been looked at let alone changed?

If on a Fixed Service regime it was due the Oil & Inspection Service & Extended Scope @ 3 years and the same again at 5 years.

Has it been serviced to that?

It had a fairly comprehensive service last year with new spark plugs and rear brake pads so it is only due a basic oil and inspection service this time around. The dealer quoted me £270, the VAG independent who did it last time want £180!
