Octavia vrs aftermarket suspension

Featured Replies

Looking into firming up the ride on my 2004 Octavia vRS for hooning around the Nurburgring ;). Seen a Koni Sport Kit which should reduce body roll and also lowers it - how much by I dont know as the vRS is already lower than other Octavia models.

Currently the car is standard although I have got a set of 18's sat in the wardrobe which will have 225/40/18 toyo R888 track tyres put on. However I dont want these to foul the arches and have noticed many members fitting uprated anti roll bars and leaving springs and dampers standard.

Has anyone played with vRS suspension set up and found a working combination?

ie - standard shocks with uprated ARB's

Aftermarket suspension such as Koni sport kit

or aftermarket suspension with uprated ARB's

Looking for people who have already done this - Thanks.

Try using Search. Loads of members have tried the various options available.

Had a look through pages and pages and pages ect! of searches and none really answering my question.

Ok so many people sugest replacing the Anti roll bars - only one thing bothers me. ---- As standard the roll bar thickness is 23mm front and 21 on the rear. Many people are totally altering the ballance modifying to 25mm on the front and 28 on the rear. suddenly the rear roll bar is thicker than the front! This to me spells out power off oversteer!

And what suspension to put on, a few members use eibach springs and from a far as I can tell fit them with original dampers while so many members are commenting that the vRS is underdamped (which I would agree with) as standard these springs will only make this problem worse.

Please can a member who has sucessfully tinkered with vRs suspension tell me exactly what they have found to work.

Thankyou.

Koni FSDs, powerflex bushes and Neuspeed 25mm front ARB & Neuspeed 28mm adjustable rear ARB work very well :D

The Koni FSDs do not lower the car at all and really improve the handling :D

Lift off oversteer can be achieved but you can set the rear ARB to a less stiff setting if you want to reduce it

Send Des a PM, (Delcac) hes usually hooning around in his vRS and has a wealth of knowledge on the subject, as does Jon (TaviaRS).

I think you mean Delcac for Des............

Thanks guys, the FSD's sound like a good bet although droping the car a fraction would compliment my new rims! I suppose a set of eibach sportline springs (from jabbasport 25-30mm lower) would really finnish the set up off nicely?!

I've sent delcac a PM so hope to here from him but ARB's, FSD's and Bushes are on the cards!

Thanks again

Been there done that :D

Powerflex bushes front and rear including the dogbone mount

KW V3 suspension works very very well and does away with the need to uprate the arbs, IMHO. In total my Octys have done over 1000 Ring laps

Best I ever had for Ring user were some Leda tarmac rally spec dampers with uprated springs - awesome! But for all round road, ring and track use, the KWs take some beating.

Des runs the KW 3s as well - think he is happy.

18s will be fine with any of the suspension setups you've mentioned, just don't go beyond 235 section or you'll have clearance issues at the front.

1000 LAPS - I'm not worthy!! It certainly would be easier to fit coil overs than spend the day under the car fitting ARBS, although not so sure about the kW V3 - not being an experienced tweaker arn't there just to many settings to get wrong? Would i be as well to get varients 1 or 2? I'm guessing the level of adjustment is the only difference between the three models.

So your only mods are bushes and KW V3's? Sounds like a lot less hasle! How about strut braces?

just out of interest how much do you lower them by for ring use?

Thanks

I had them pretty much max height.

Leave them as they come out of the box.

Order linear springs, not progressives.

For adjustment for the Ring you want to have about 3/4 of max bump at the rear, (leave rebound alone) 2/3 of max bump at the front and 3/4 rebound IIRC - I'll see if I can find my settings from last time.

Twos are a lot more harsh on the road, probably down to them being Koni inserts, rather than KW's own internals as per the 3s. the ones will lower it only, there are better options if you are doing that.

Don't be tempted to buy Golf kits, IME they will break as the weight distribution is different between a Golf and an Octy - I blew 3 sets of Koni rear dampers before fitting the Ledas and subsequently the KWs.

I never notice the lack of uprated ARBs on the RS, I did on my current diesel so I have them on that with standard shocks now (pretty much given up tracking the car at the moment).

Jon what are the v3's like for everyday driving comfort?

A local Briskodian has offered me his v3's but I don't want to loose out on too much ride comfort, just want to drop the car ever so slightly...

Just been trying to look into KW V3's on awesome gti and also the KW website. Found listings and part numbers for every model except the vRS! This is the case with the mojority of aftermarket suspension companys and is a right pain in the a*se.

The threes are like the standard ones, only better. Not a lot more to say really :D They don't make it crashy either just very, very controlled

The normal Octavia ones are fine, they fit all Octavias. I had the same kit on my RS as I do on my diesel. Only difference is between FWD and 4WD

Ok so there's a diffinate split between 2 popular set-ups, had a PM from delcac and kindly he's offered his oppion - KW V3's, rear ARB only, braces and bushes.

However as sarah from awesome gti says there is no listing for a vRS from KW and although the normal FWD Octavia ones will fit - there are so many different part numbers (at least 4 for 2004 FWD)!! So which ones?

I'm hoping Sarah can help on this one, ever fitted KW V3's to a vRS before? Also the FSD's are a deffinate option but I've still got the problem of no lowering springs being listed for this vehicle, what would you suggest for a 25 to 30mm drop?

Too much, you'll ground it round the Ring.

Des seems to be saying the same as me, broadly speaking :)

As for part number, you want 35282002 and you need to specify that you want linear springs, rather than the progressives that come with them :D
