OBDeleven mainbeam with fog lights not working

Featured Replies

I have OBDeleven because the VCDS is more difficult to use. I switched the cornering light on and fog lights on when the mainbeam is on, the cornering works fine, but the fog with the mainbeam isn't working. Does anyone know the reason?

My car is Elegance 2.0TDI 140BHP PD 2009.

I had a different make of car where it was not possible to have the fogs on with main beam. I was told that if you had main beams on then its not foggy!

However, I just tried it on my car and you can have fog and main beam on together.

Thanks for the info, it's silly to activated it, pay my 10 credit isn't working.

So now I know.

Thanks again

IIRC, it is illegal in the UK to use fog lights when fog is not present - if main beams are in use, conditions clearly do not qualify for use of fogs.

No, you don't understand. When the main beams are on, the fog lights come on at the same time. You refer to the fog lights being off when you put the main beam on.

That is not what you wrote in your original post - if you are now saying that your fog lights illuminate while the main beams are lit, I believe your vehicle lighting setup is illegal in UK.

Yes it's illegal use main beams as well. So you switch the main beams off when the car is approaching. The fog will be off too. So what's illegal?

my English weren't my first language.

UK Highway Rule 236 states that fog lights MUST NOT be used unless visibility is severely restricted by fog (typically<100 Metres) If visibility is so restricted by fog to warrant use of fog lights, high beams would clearly blind the driver with back scatter.

@Warrior193 people who mess around with their exterior lighting tend not to care much about suchlike.

Agree with you, but I strongly object to being dazzled by oncoming traffic with clearly illegal lighting - I've noticed that drivers with this sort of lighting setup are frequently late in dipping their main beams - presumably because of the drastic reduction in lighting when/if they finally do.
