Replacing the screen on my head unit

Featured Replies

Hello ,

I'm looking at replacing the screen on my head unit but would like to find out what's compatible for it without changing the unit in the glove box .

If it helps my Vin number is TMBKK7NE5G0138482.

Kind regards for any help.

Hello there,

I'm afraid that the head units are matched with the displays - except for the early MIB2 systems that can be made to work with the F/L MIB2 screens.

What you trying to do? Can you show us a picture of your existing system and what you are looking for?

Thanks

I will post a picture when i get home from work later , i'm just trying to freshen up the display it works fine, I have unlocked the car play on the unit in the glove box and that's the reason for not wanting to change that unit.

If you can press hold the menu button on the system and then display the system information, that would be helpful. I would then recommend you speak with @pab567 who is our in-house resident expert in regard to upgrade paths.

You can use 8" prelift 5E0919606 or 8" facelift 5E0919605M however in case of 5E0919605M button APP will not work unless you upgrade firmware to 03xx or 04xx which requires patching first. If you decide to upgrade to 03xx or 04xx pls note left and right channels will be swapped.

Hello .

I have bought a replacement display unit the 5E0919606, but I'm having an issue with the connections on the back . The unit in the car has the black rectangle connector and a blue connector. The 5E0919606 has the same black rectangle but has a black oval in shape connector that the blue one doesn't fit . Is there a patch cable I can use to get this to work?

Regards Adam

Just take a sharp knife and cut off the excessive plastic trim from blue plug that prevents it to be plugged into black socket in the new screen.

@pab567 @SashaGrace I currently have this setup below. It's a MIB2 with android auto and I have no NAV. I'm looking to update my screen with model number 5E0919605N. Can you tell me if this will be just plug and play?Screenshot_2025-08-07-12-41-27-979_com.miui.gallery.jpgIMG_20250714_142837.jpg

Yes, but APP button will not work as it requires SW at least MY17 (03xx)

Thanks @pab567 can you just explain a little more what exactly "SW at least MY17 (03xx)" means?

Your unit is MY16 - software 02xx (0245). APP button is supported in MY17 and newer units, i.e. units with software 03xx (e.g. 0369) or 04xx (e.g. 0480). All other buttons and features will work.

Perfect. Thanks @pab567 for taking the time to clarify that for me.
