Replaced Engine in Skoda Scout, is there a history?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have had the extremely bad and unfortunate experience of using a ClickMechanic car tech and deciding to change my glow plugs on my 8.5 year old Octavia Scout and it all going wrong, the car would not turn over or start at all straight afterwards. I have had to therefore change the engine. The “breakers, second hand engine” seems to be very good and time will tell how it goes, but it’s been a very long and frustrating time. I wanted to know if I can find any history to the engine given the I assume serial number of *CRMxxxxxx* with I assume a date and time of 06.02.18 06:26:39. I have read the page on cariffy.com about the format which helps, the dealer can’t help as they need a VIN or registration number which I don’t have. Just wondered if anyone would shed any light on the subject of engine historical databases. I know this is a standard CRMB engine from VW which has apparently done 58k miles a good few less than my 152k miles that I had on the original engine.

Thanks

Can you explain what happened during the glow plug change that resulted in having to replace the engine?

I am waiting for a report for this, so yet to determine this, it is holiday season so things are on a slow time line. I will update once I know.

I have just got the report back, it states: Engine is stripped and it wasn’t the glow plugs that caused the damage it had melted pistons 2 and 3 which then picked up on the boars and broke the piston rings.

That sounds as if the pistons were on their way out before the glow plug replacement - what was the issue that triggered the decision to change the plugs, hard starting - or something else?

I decided to change the glow plugs because occasionally it would take a moment or two longer to start and the fact that I had had a glow plug fail on me last year ( with a dash board engine warning) and the fact that It is generally considered that glow plugs would last up to about 150 thousand miles, so Thought it a good opportunity to replace them all at once, oh boy do I regretI not waiting until the service/MOT was due in October!
