Wireless Android Auto in 2020 MK3 Superb

Featured Replies

Just to add:

Delete all previous cars in Android Auto App on the phone and on the AA Dongle app.

Delete all related Bluetooth pairings.

I think priority needs to be

  1. Assign primary user.

  2. Do the ports work and wired Android Auto

  3. Does the car have wireless Android Auto or not.

  4. Play with wireless dongles.

Yep - looks like a good priority list to me :)

I only go to Indies, but if I ever need a dealer I'm genuinely not sure where I'll go. I've moved home from university now, and while my local dealer at home is the one that sold me the car, they also sold me the crash damaged Leon before it and lied to me, numerous times, about multiple things.

Meadens Brockenhurst are the only main dealer I've ever had a positive experience with and I've dealt with quite a few. Their wait times are probably so long because they've only got a small workshop (full of horses, lol) and they've got a good reputation.

I agree with @logiclee - very logical. Delete everything that's currently paired, reset the entire system (make a note of any settings you have) and try again.

As an aside, I've got fed up with the cable in my car and have just bought a Quadlock CarPlay/AA adapter - it's worked flawlessly itself, although my infotainment system (MIB2.5) did freeze entirely last night. These systems are just crap - when using a cable, mine would disconnect every few days, for no reason at all. My Leon used to freeze when it was cold, literally. Often the cold weather would trigger the TPMS warning (no idea why) and I would have to wait until the screen had thawed before I could reset it.

The Quadlock adapter is really small, so it plugs into the USB port by the shifter, with no need for a cable - I'm not sure what the Superb layout is, but it was the only adapter I could find that would fit nicely and wouldn't catch fire.

I think - unfortunately the only option is to go to a main dealer for this issue... they are the most likely to have the software bits and pieces.. But this does start a new discussion (new topic needed?) re servicing etc... I would always prefer to go to my garage that I know and trust, but are there any advantages to sticking with Skoda for servicing? For my old Superb (2012) I went to Marshalls Skoda for the first few service after buying the car second hand... but switched to my independent garage when Marshalls tried to "fix" my "electronically operated fuel filler cap" at a cost of £450... The filler cap was not electronically operated... it was simply mechanical and had got stuck... 🙄

I'm fairly sure that any wireless android auto boxes just won't work reliably with an MIB3 system due to other bits of wifi going on in the car... happy to be proved wrong...! I do like the look of the quadlock one though. I now have three such adapters (AAWireless 1/ AAWireless 2+/ and a Motorola MA1).

Still over two weeks until my appt. with Winchester...

I'm on my 17th Skoda. (As can be seen in my signature). All from the same dealer.

Currently run three. 2024 Superb, 2019 Fabia, 2012 Octavia.

My general rule is 5 years at the dealer and then at my trusted independent.

Sometimes it'll be longer than Five years depending on any service pack deals I have.

I assume 5 years from original registration? 17!? That's excellent!

Yep.

5 years from new. Unless included in service pack then longer.

For the second part of the question.

"What are the advantages of sticking with the dealer?"

For me I have a good relationship with my dealer and have certainly been in situations where I've had good will from them and from Skoda UK.

Cars bought from and serviced by the same dealer they can't really blame anyone else. 😁

But as cars approach the 6th year then realistically you can't expect that.

There's a guy that's one in front of me and has had 18 cars from my dealer so I need to swap my wifes car soon. 😂

Is there a Pixel 7? I’m waiting for that for the flush.

However, it does go both ways. As mentioned, I've had some absolutely abysmal experiences with dealers.

My car is a 2020 - I tend to avoid main dealers unless there is something specific (like infotainment). Aside from Meadens in Brockenhurst, I've just had too many bad experiences. From being sold a crash damaged car, to one cross threading a wheel bolt and then a master tech at another trying to tell me the knocking sound was just wear and tear (it was a fist-sized rock lodged in the subframe), I just have zero faith in them.

I need some work done, and am struggling a bit. My usual Indie has rather long wait times and I'm a good 2.5 hours from Brockenhurst (not that their wait times will be any better). Everywhere around me looks woeful, with the exception of one place that I'm still not 100% about.

Several times bitten, infinitely shy. I've had awful luck since passing my test, so I check and double check everything three times over.

I'm lucky to have Rainworth Skoda 5 minutes from where I live.

Never had a problem with them, always gone the extra mile for me. I know most of the sales and service staff.

If I call in for a chat they will generally throw me the keys to try anything I want.

Good will? They replaced a panroof at a cost of over £2500 that wasn't included in the Used car warranty.

For me I just think that any training and focus in dealers is for the current models and as ours get older the development and knowledge can only go one way. Necessary for warranty but after that they lose a lot of weight for me.

Appreciate that’s a wide sweeping judgement but the proportion of good to bad dealer experiences is telling.

Finding a good specialist makes much more sense to me and they’re worth their weight in gold..

I can dream of somewhere like that... my local dealer was the one that sold me the crashed car!

I found a good indie about midway from university and home - I announced this discovery to @travs, who has promptly filled up their diary.

I think I'll make the trip to see them for the next job I have - I've been looking at reviews of Skoda dealers for an hours radius around me, and they all seem terrible. It's only a small job, but I'm not sure I can be bothered with anyone else.

'bit naff for admin but their work looks second to none' - same as most good VAG indies.

I also have a good indy for our older cars.

Uses all genuine parts if I ask.

Sometimes I have to guide them. They've just done the Park position microswitch on the DSG selector on the Fabia due to the "Error Workshop" common fault.

First one they've done.

Not everyone spends all day on here. 😄

Yeah, the aforementioned @travs had a similar experience with his intercooler fitting - bit of a steer and they were away. Most of these blokes are ex-VAG anyway.

As far as I'm concerned, if they use the stuff I want them to, update the service log properly and do a far better job than any main dealer, what's not to like? Okay, the admin side is a bit lacking and someones dog had been driving the last courtesy car, but I'll take it.

I normally give any place working on the car a printed list of whatever is being done, along with some Fox's (other brands are available).

Hi All,

UPDATE:

I took the car to Winchester Skoda on Thursday.. long story short they got to the point where they acknowledged that there was a fault, but that they are not able to fix it without more info from Skoda. They are in the process of getting that info and will rebook the car in when they have a fix to try and implement.. all of it seems to revolve around the OCU and some CANBUS errors... Let's see what Skoda say..

I have collected the car and now I'm waiting for them to call me to rebook it in. In the meantime there are some things on my car that now don't work - but that is to be expected - i'm not going to bother setting it all up again, that can wait for it to be fixed. They do want it for 3/4 days next time though!

One other thing of note - I had a loan car while mine was in... a 24 plate Kamiq... I hated it, the ride was crazy firm, it was loud, the seats were really uncomfortable and the brakes were incredibly aggressive... but wow; it was economical..! got well over 55mpg in the two journeys to and from Oxford... While my superb IV was getting about 40MPG...

Just wanted to update you all :)

Good to see it’s not a complete dead end - fingers crossed you get some sort of result from HQ.

Don’t be attracted by economy. Life’s too short to sacrifice everything for it. Especially when it’s VW self-reported!

Hi Everyone -

It has been a while!

I think the last time I updated this thread the car had been to Winchester for its first visit... Since then it has been to Winchester 6 more times...

To cut a very long story short (if people are interested in the extended timeline I will type it up... perhaps I'll do that anyway incase it helps someone out) the OCU has now been replaced and coded to the vehicle - and I can now become primary user on the car... however, this has NOT fixed the wireless android auto problem which persists...

The car still states that wireless android auto should work so it's once again headed back to Winchester at the end of the month to hopefully get it sorted... (I'm not particularly hopeful, but hey..)

Important to call out Jess and Dan at Winchester who have both been excellent throughout this period...

G.
