Torque To Yield Subframe Bolts?

Featured Replies

I've had the front subframe aligned, however I've discovered/realised that apparently most of these bolts are torque to yield, aka stretch bolts, which want replacing any time they're undone. From memory I had the alignment done by an independent place at some point, followed by Skoda in February this year (first place reported loosening the bolts and the subframe shifting back into place).

Is anyone able to offer any thoughts on this re the bolts?

🙂

I'd agree, buy a new set and replace them one at a time, I still have that job to do on my own car VAG Indie had dropped the subframe when replacing the engine mountings, and did not replace any of these subframe bolts! I quickly bought a new set, but not done that yet, I must try harder!

Thank you. Does anyone have an idea of the required part number?

I’d like to have some idea before I phone the dealer parts lot!

Go here, use ctrl-f to find the various pages for 'assembly carrier', then pick the right diagram depending on your engine code. The bolts may be the same for all, dunno.

Thank you - N10785401 is what I'm seeing. The diagram only seems to suggest three are needed (8, 8 and 6) but I know there's four - I think the fourth is by the 1.

It's not super-clear, but from my experience on mk1 Fabia platform, you have an 8 each side, a 6 each side and two 5s each side?

I'm after the main subframe bolts - everywhere I've seen has mentioned four of them (the parts list on the right has two of 6 and 8). I believe it's 6, 8, 8 and then the final one is by the number 1. It is the worlds shi**iest diagram.

I'll confirm I'm after 6/8 and then probably just order some 5s and whatever else too - they're even cheaper from skoda-parts.com so I think I'll live.

For anyone finding this thread in 2045 when they're building their retro Octavia drag car, those part numbers are all correct. I've confirmed with my friendly dealer parts guy, as well as a few other places. You'll probably be able to 3D print them from your phone by then or something, but still.
