Brake caliper torque settings

Featured Replies

Hello, does anyone have the torque settings for the caliper sliding pins on a 1.2 2016 rapid?

Cheers

Manual lists 30Nm for the "guide bolt". Seems beefy but it is M9. This is for the FN3 caliper - the pins look like this;

Later / different calipers have this kind of pin setup; (1ZC caliper)

image.png Last time I did one of these it came with details of the tightening torque in the kit. Can't remember at the moment what that was.

Yeah I had FN3 on my old Mk5 golf I believe. I'll whip a wheel off and have a look.

Feckin right, they don't need to be that tight tbh. Just a little nip and then a bit more.

I'm not sure that any VW Group cars that I've owned have had Loctite - red or blue, on these bolts - but that might be my error on not noticing any on all these guide bolts that I've removed and refitted.

Other versions do have blue Loctite on them, which I clean up and apply fresh Loctite on reuse.

Edit:- for clarification, my comments were aimed at the threaded guide pin type, ie the version in the first picture, the short bolts that screw into the end of the separate guide pins, ie the version in the second picture do tend to have Loctite on them, typically Blue Loctite paste.
