Can I use damaged coil packs?

Featured Replies

When I pulled the coilpack off each plug on my 1.2 , 12 v/v, CGPA, HTP engine the rubber (plastic?) sleeve detached from the coilpack and was left behind on the plugs.

I damaged each sleeve to fit the socket to get the plugs out.

I thought changing the plugs was going to be straightforward - I never learn.

Can I refit the coilpacks without the sleeves?

TYIA.

How did you get on with this, I’m mid way through trying to diagnose my daughter's non starting fabia (have posted my dilemna on here) that just stopped on her, same engine code as yours and I’ve removed one coil pack so far and encountered the rubber issue, destroyed the rubber to get a socket on it. (taking plugs out to check compression test/see if i can see any physical damage from a potential slipped chain,

Did you end up having to change the coilpacks? or did you leave the rubber off (would that not cause some arc’ing?)

I think you can get new rubbers and VW call them coil pack towers. I had mine replaced as 2 were split causing a misfire.

Thats helpful, thankyou, I’ll try Skoda on Monday (or vw as assuming they’re the same coil packs on a Polo as they are on a Fabia

I'm sorry to read about your problems Jogon.

I replaced the coil packs. Like you I was concerned about arcing etc.

I could only find replacement rubbers on line from China and I wasn't able to wait for delivery.

I did not know Skoda called them coil pack towers. I searched under coil pack rubbers.

Good luck.
