ah my mk1 was a faithful beast..I had it in that colour and on a 52 plate...it was a sad day as I drove away from it...until I booted my mk2 through the gears and it was instantly forgotten

Is there such a huge difference between the MKI & MKII?

Nice car RSMike by the way.

Very nice, I had one and still have fond memories (silver estate vRS).

As to the comment above, oooooooooh yes ;)

Another question. I think it's called the slam panel at the front. In the picture it is black, are they all like that? I ask as mine is a black car anyway and I haven't seen any others to compare it to.

Looks nice. I have the same car in red :) Were did you get that grill??

Was also going too ask for feedback on the grill, is it a Milotech? Would you recommend buying one?

Rahhhhh, very very very rsto0.gif rsto0.gif rsto0.gif

Looks sweet as m8. I've never driven one but on paper they look fast.

Thanks for the comments people

1) i dont know about the slam panel mine came like that

2) I got the milotec grill out of the for sale section here off chris_rs_uk very recommended seller and i personally love it but everyone differs but they dont meet the headlights flush

but all in all i would recommend buying one

All slam panels are black, dont fret.

Thanks Lummox, I can rest easy now.

Nice car! Not sure the grille is my cup of tea though, but each to their own.

I don't really understand the mad panic to blank out number plates either, really. I know that someone could "twin-up" their car with your plate, but they could do that anyway just by seeing you drive down the road or taking a tour of a large car park. I suppose that for the two minutes it takes on photoshop some people might feel it to be worthwhile.

Is there such a huge difference between the MKI & MKII?

Closer ratio, six speed box, lag reduced, better control of body roll and better handling of poor road surfaces (MKII 18s vs MKI 17s).

Better headlights, more cubby space, engine that doesn't sound like a diesel on morning starts, noticable accelleration improvements (because of the shorter ratios...?)

Having said this (and to redirect thread back on topic), I thought my MKI was ace. More special lookin' than my new estate and easily the car I have most enjoyed ownership of since I started driving 16 years ago.

RSmike, not sure about the grille, but you will love the car :)

I must admit MrkyMrk that the vRS is my favourite car I have owned as a good all rounder. Also, I've always been a fan of closer ratios as a trade off for top end speed. It is nice to know my car will do 140mph plus, but will hardly ever get there. I'd rather top out at 100mph but get there very quickly.

I have owned a few Capris and a trick I'm sure you've heard of is putting a 1.6 rear axle on a 2.8 or 3.0 car. Blindingly fast, top out at a much lower speed and need replacing quite often. I'm not going to try to mess about with my Octavia in any way, but it would be interesting to shorten the ratios to see if it made a huge difference.

Am I off thread again?:o

I woulda thought an Octy would be a bit more tough to do that stuff on that a Capri :)

I'm presuming it's the ratios that make the difference because the power upgrade is only modest and the weight is up. There was a MkIV based 6-speed 180bhp Leon, wasn't there? You could chase up figures on that one, see how much difference the ratios made on what is much the same car underneath...

would love to go the other way and put a furby 6spd box in the octy, 70 mph at 2000 rpm gives a theoreticall top speed of over 200 mph, might need a bit of a power/torque hike to get it there and a long straight road (prefferably downhill) but you get the idea :)

MrkyMrk I drove one of those Leons up in Middlesborough before I bought my Octavia on one of my 'drive everything I possibly can in a day' quests.

I thought it felt quicker off the mark and had a more sporty feel to it. This could have been down to the setup of the whole car making the overall difference. I won't pretend that I know what I'm on about and talk about dampers 'n springs etc, but it did feel quicker.
