Centre consol button panel - change of button order

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried changing the order of the buttons on the centre consol panel in front of the gear stick? It seems like the middle buttons are the same size / shape, so thoretically should be possible to take the panel apart and move them around - I'm not sure if it's not more involved than that however with parts dedicated to the specific functional (vs blank) buttons and dedicated wiring. I.e. if I swap a functional button with a blank will it perhaps stop working.

In case anyone is wondering why - just looking to bring some of the buttons closer to myself as it is on the far side and with the gearstick in Park it's a bit of an awkward reach to it, i.e. I want to have the functional buttons as close to driver as possible.

you would have to take the unit which is more fully occupied, then change the cover and re-pin

I dare bet you'd have to extend the wiring on any button you wish to reposition - not impossible, I did it on my VWT5, but a little fiddly............

Normally it is an 8 or 10 pin connector, so only 1 connector for all buttons

But be careful! One button can switch 12V, while the other switches GND. You can't change this throughout the entire unit.
