Inspect Cambelt

Featured Replies

My 1.0 litre Karoq with engine code DLAA is coming up to 3 years old now. I know the cambelt has a long life but I would like to inspect it when I service the car later this year. How do I go about inspecting it please without taking half the engine apart? Is there an easy way to do this? Many thanks.

Is anyone able to answer this please?

I have no experience of attempting this but this video may give an idea of how difficult this may be.

Absolutely, I just don't bother doing jobs like this now, modern engines are so compact and tech loaded, I prefer someone else struggle and get the backache.

I'd just get the belt changed just below the service interval for it, it isn't worth the hassle and potential damage to other components.

And yes, I service ny own ,and others vehicles, plus I've built engines from scratch in the past.

Probably just needs you to remove the top cam belt cover, and have a look inside and turn the engine over at least a complete revolution, also have a look to make sure that there are no signs of oil escaping from the variable timing cam sprockets.
