Looking for Oil Recommendations for 2016 Octavia 2.0 TDI

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My 2016 Octavia 2.0 TDI that’s done about 130,000 km. I’m based in a region with quite extreme temperatures .. 0°C winters and up to 50°C summers .. so I’m looking for an oil that can handle both ends well.

I’m considering premium synthetics like AMSOIL and Motul.

  • Has anyone run these in their TDIs? How was the experience?

  • Did you notice smoother running, better protection, or any downsides?

  • What change intervals worked best for you?

Also, if you’ve had better results with other brands or grades, I’d love to hear your suggestions. Currently I use standard VW approved 5W-30/5W-40, but I’m open to switching if there’s a clear benefit.

I have been using Total Energy Quartz Ineo Long Life 5w30 for 2 years with Blue Print Oil Filters it does the job but I recently swapped over to Shell Helix HX8 ECT 5w30 with a Mahle Oil Filter and I can say the engine is running like a dream, very smooth and I'm getting great economy average 4.5l/100km and sometimes as low as 4.1l/100km on my 2017 2.0 CRMB TDI with 297,000km with diesel from a Supermarket
