Dealer issue again

Featured Replies

Due to a back and hip problem i needed to get my spark plugs replaced in my 2019 Skoda Fabia 1.0 TSI (DKRC) 110 BHP, normally I would do this job myself and now I'm peedd off with the dearlrship monkeys, they did replace the the spark plugs at a staggering cost of just under £200 but they have caused damage to go with it, they have broken the turbo boost pipe adaptor clip and also damaged numbr 1 coil pack conecion plug the clip is broken off on that as well , I did return it the next day as I was to ill to check or drive the car home from the dealers, they have now said because it was taken away they will not accept any fault or damage to the car so the clip on on the turbo pipe can be re[laced with a new whole part which is around £20-£30 but it's the coil pack connector that is the issue does any one knoew the part number for a replacement plug or kit that can be used, ever time I search it comes out with a coil pack not the plug on the wiring loom, I don't even mind splicing a used clip into the loom or demouting the cables and then replacing the plug itself , at the moment the clip is holding and the plug although part of it is missing still holsds solid but not sure in the future if it will stay clipped once removed, this is the last time i ever use a dealers they are useless monkeys

I'm not sure this is actually the case in law; check with local CAB.

If they damaged it while working on it its down to them to repair/make good. Main problem may be proving it was them? When you pick up a car from a garage dealer or not you trust them that its been done right. I don't know anyone who inspects a car before leaving the garage . Check with CAB as said. If the dealer has refused to repair it you could always point out that any publicity of that kind won't help their reputation. By the sound of it you wont be using them again anyway.

Seems that because i cannot prove the condition of the parts before taking the car to the dealers and they also are saying it could be fair wear and tear they will replace the parts but i have to pay for the parts , the turbo pipe connection is £53 from thier stock and the wiring loom would have to be a complete replacement job the exact price is not available but they quoted anything from £100 to £300 if they can get it, I can get the turbo pipe connection brand new £20 it's the wiring loom connection plug for te coil pack not yet seen a replacement but did find a repair connection 4 pin plug with wires and heat shrink self fit for £25 so it seems thats the answer for me , and as I said won't ever use the monkey dealers again

My younger daughter’s 2019 Arona with the 115PS version of that engine, at some time of it’s life, ended up with the turbo inlet pipe (manifold) getting disassembled and so there was an air gap at that point! It could have been her local VAG Indie as they did record that they had checked the air filter element at its 2024 service. I checked the air filter last week and was pleased to see that the replacement turbo inlet pipe was still in one piece - they had replaced the air filter at its 2025 service.

The cover for the pollen filter had a hole in it, ie a chunk of plastic missing, I applied strong fabric reinforced tape to both sides of it to seal it up. I’m not placing any blame on that garage for doing that as the plastic used is shocking for that application, but in both cases, surely the fitter/mechanic knew that they had broken something and just left it. Accidents/breakages can happen but an honest worker should surely report it and/or fix it either at the garage’s cost or the customer’s cost.

Correct, but as usual it comes down to "not our fault issue"

That cover you mentioned can be bought on eBay as I bought one for my Fabia due to one pf the sliding clips being forced off and was not holding correctly, again this happened when the car went into the dealers for it's 2nd year service and the pollen filter was replaced, I noticed it was broken when I checked to see it had been replaced after the service as I have been conned by this old trick before saying something was replaced but hasn't ,what also got me was the air filter shoiuild have been checked or replaced after 2 years ---they had bot even looked at it as the cover and bolts still had dust on them, it was a bit dusty but a quick blow through with an air line cleaned it enough to last another year but no thanks to them

Mate used to put nailvarnish on nuts and bolts that needed removed for servicing. Put his van in for brakes problem. When he picked it up they said they had checked brakes and cleaned them up and they were fine. Werent too happy when he pointed out that the purple nailvarnish was still on the wheel nuts on rear and asked them how they checked/cleaned drum brakes with wheels on. He refused to pay bill and has never been back.

The pollen filter cover type/design has changed on some of these VAG cars, so used ones appear for around £40 - which is a bit of a joke, no longer a substantial thick plastic cover with 2 sliding clips.

Very tricky to remove your first one, but I made a note of “how it’s done” and that worked this time.

OTOH I once knew a mechanic who noticed this and put an item on the bill "painting fasteners as per originals"

Just checked my records bought this cover from Amazon cost £7.99 brand new made bya firm called Deiustfhe--car cover-plate part number 6RD815391 for a Skoda Fabia fits my MK3 cabin filter housing it's exactly the same part that came off it

The later cars tend to use 2Q0 819 422 or 2Q0 819 422 A, which is a much less substantial bit of plastic and does not use the sliding locking elements.

If you paid on credit card you could try a section 75 claim with your credit card company. Earlier this year I successfully claimed the repair cost from ATS, after they stripped the threads of the wheel bolts, on my Merc.

Paid with my debit card, but the issue here is proving that the parts were broken before taking it to the dealers that's the main issue, I have purchased a new Turbo pipe adaptor pipe brand new £22 and also been able to get from LLL parts Germany replacement new coil plug connectors they were £12.63 plus shipping, i purchased the VW type tool for taking the wires out of these type of plugs for just under £10 so when the plug change comes around again I will replace both the adaptor plug and pipe , at the moment both seem fine and are working ok, the dealers did get back to me and said that they now can get the replacement engine wiring loom which would have the 3 new coil plug ends fitted but they want me to pay upfront for the loom as it's a special order ----£243 for the loom and £53 for the turbo pipe adaptor, both of which I have already purchased at a cost of £32.63 plus the £10 for the tool so in all £42.63 I can if I wish get another garage to fit these parts but I will probably do it myself ater on when I'm feeling better

Good fun extracting pins from connectors, well, if you like doing that sort of thing. I've got a few extractors and also use sharp pins as when necessary.

I've got a damaged ABS wheels sensor connector on my 2011 Audi S4, I think that the plastic used on that individual connector has aged badly, I've bought a new connector from an online supplier so will probably take the easy way out with this one as I have plenty access - ie, take my very small vice out to the car and carefully crush the body enough to make it crack, that cunning plan worked for me a few years ago in the same area of another VW car, it was brake pad wear lead that time.

Mmm sounds like a plan there I do have a small portable vice and once the air turbo pipe is out of the way I to could try this crushing to get the old unit away from the wire connections it's worth a try, not doing it yet but will keep that in mind thanks never thought of that
