Hi,

Having just picked up a 2014 vRS estate, it needs some modern-ifying

Attached are some pictures of the units in the centre and glovebox.

Would the 5Q0035874C and 5E0919605M be a good fit, in order to keep all the current in-car tech? Installed is the canton speaker system, which I've read can make things difficult.

I would like to upgrade to wireless android auto and carplay, so I'd need a new usb port too(is usb-C option somewhere)

Would this all be plug and play with a coding trip?

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks

Ignore post above, still getting used to the forum

You'll need the advice of @pab567 in that case.

@jonzi55 start with sharing VIN of your car.

@pab567 see above 😭, still new here

So now you have Bolero MIB1, with Bluetooth, with DAB, part number 5E0035842A, with USB 5Q0035726B and funortunately you have CANTON sound system.

You can install one of four different OEM glove box units:

- MIB2 Bolero

- MIB2 Amundsen

- MIB2 Columbus

- MIB2.5 Columbus

You also need to replace display unit:

- for MIB2 Bolero you can use either 6.5" model number 5E0919605H or 8" model number 5E0919605N

- for MIB2 Amundsen and MIB2 Columbus you can use listed above display as well as 6.5" model number 5E0919605J, 8" model number 5E0919606, 8" model number 5E0919605M

- for MIB2.5 Columbus the only display unit that works is 5E0919606D

You have to replace CANTON sound system amplifier. New amplifier must be coded online.

If you would like to use Apple CarPlay then you also have to replace USB port.

The question is what is your budget and which of listed below features are "must have":

- Video playback from DVD, USB, SD

- CD playback

- OEM navigation

- displaying OEM maps in Virtual Cluster (Active Info Display).

All units support SmartLink (Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink), rear view camera, voice command. features that differ them:

- MIB2 Bolero - no OEM navigation, no CD/DVD drive, no video playback from SD/USB

- MIB2 Amundsen - OEM navigation, no CD/DVD drive, no video playback from SD/USB, support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)

- MIB2 Columbus - OEM navigation, CD/DVD drive, video playback from SD/USB, no support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)

- MIB2.5 Columbus - OEM navigation, CD/DVD drive, video playback from SD/USB, support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)

Wow, amazing info thank you @pab567

MIB2 Columbus sounds like the perfect mixture for me at the moment. OE nav and CD/DVD are not must-haves but would certainly be nice to keep.

OE maps in cluster would be nicer if it could be android auto, so another no, assuming that's not an option without going VC, if even possible.

Would it make sense to buy the 5Q0035874C and 5E0919605M pair, if at a good price?

And with the usb slot and amp replacement could you point me in the right direction?

TIA

Also @pab567 "component protection" (I think it's called) and the coding. Would I be able to take a unit ice gotten second hand from a breaker and get it programmed? Or is there an alternative? Many TIA

5Q0035874C and 5E0919605M is a nice set. Component protection in 5Q0035874C can be disabled in HMI (there is an error in diagnostics but the unit works normally). Component protection in CANTON amplifier must be removed online. USB for CarPlay is 5Q0035726E or 5Q0035726J.

@pab567

Okay, so I'll pick up the 5Q0035874C and 5E0919605M then. I'll grab a usb port as well

Any recommendations for the replacement amp? And would I need any wiring to be replaced for the amp or anything else?

3Q0035466A or 81A035223. No changes in wiring required. You will also need either to slightly rework or replace installation frame for the amplifier (new one part number is 3Q0907390).

Are the part numbers on the glove box unit the same as the screens they match with or are they slighty different

They're completely different!

Oh right as i was looking at getting this model screen 5E0919605M but was wondering what the matching glovebox unit part number was as i wanted to go columbus mib2

@pab567 thank you

I was looking at getting this display 5E0919605M but i cant seem to source the glove box unit the numbers that ive seen dont seem to find it on my search but i was thinking the columbus MIB2. Do the support wireless andriod auto or will it need an adapter that plugs in to the usb port i need

None of MIB2 units support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay natively - it can be achieved ONLY with third party adapter connected to USB.

I can deliver both display and glove box unit, if you are interested pls contact me in PM.

@pab567 i am intrested in finding out more about the cost but i cannot pm you as my account isnt the correct level to pm

@pab567 I have the same conundrum, I have all of the components at my home, Screen, media unit, usb port and amplifier.
Would you be able to support with the coding and removal of Component Protection? PM if you can, maybe it'll let me respond.
thanks,
