what would happen if.........?

i wired a front speaker up the wrong way round?

ive just put a new speaker (after market ) in the passenger side due to popping the original and it has drawn all the power from the HU. when listening to the original in the driver side against the new one the original has more bass and seems to have more power.

the new one makes the outer door pallel vibrate loads compared to the original. could i have wired it up back to front or would this make no difference. the new speakers are kenwood with 170 watt peak power so should be better than the originals.

any advice welcome.

Its making the doorcard vibrate more because the speaker is deeper and therefore is closer to the plastic.

It will sound cr@p compared to original (well, not quite but not as good as it should) due to being underpowered. The HU can't provide enough juice for them so you will need to amp them up to make the most of them.

its making the original sound cr@p as well though.

its making the outer metal of the door vibrate not the inside.

It will sound quite odd if you don't have matched speakers , so swap the one on the other side as well and see how that sounds.

If the speaker is wired the wrong way around, the bass from one side will cancel out the bass on the other. Move the fader from L to R and see what I mean, if on either side the sound has good bass but on the centre setting its flat then reverse the connection on the new speaker. Also change the other one to get a good pair.

that sound exactly what is happening. im putting the other one in on the weekend so will take the speaker out and swap the wires over.

thanks guys!

Yeah, as said above, you need to make sure the speakers are in phase. If they're running opposite to each other, they can cancel the sound from each other out.

IF the door skin is vibrating I would suggest getting a sheet of something like dynamat extreem and putting it on the door skin to stop it vibrating. Worked very well on an old car I had.

out of phase spaekers is quite annoying at times, i have 2 2x12" boxes in my boot and when i first connected them up wrongly by mistake it took my ages to work out.

they were moving loads and vinrating the hell out of stuff but had zero strentgh to the bass

swapped one round and they thumped like mad :D
