Monte Carlo Estate written off - which rear bumper replacement

Featured Replies

Heya,

Unfortunately our 2013 Fabia Mk2 Monte Carlo estate was in a (very minor) traffic bump the other week and has been written off. I've bought it back as the damage looked very much superficial, but the rear bumper is smashed. There doesn't appear to be any panel damage, but it's off to a local bodyshop for a quote today.

I was wondering if anyone knows which bumper to get for a 2013 Monte Carlo estate?

Is it the same bumper as a VRS but sprayed differently?

I'm guessing it's different to the hatchback rear bumper?

Insurance assessor seemed insane, it's been written off as a Cat S with damage to the rear drivers side panel, tailgate, bumper and rear crash bar. I'd looked the car over before it went off and the tailgate and wing appeared untouched, so was considering new bumper + light and perhaps the crash bar. Will see what the bodyshop say today. Insurance assessor hadn't flagged the light for replacement, but I think it needs one.

On my old MK2 Fabia estate the rear bumper was as yours damaged by a rear end shunt, It was a bit harder getting a replacement as mine had the rear parking sensors like yours, the only info i can give you is that you need a rear bumper from an estate version of the Fabia as the hatch version is smallaller and does not fit, you van fit new parking sensors but they are over £80 each from the dealers , the retro fit type don't work with the system on the Fabia, you can try and get yours off but they are moulded brackets and they break when trying to remove them from the inside of the bumper , there is a video on u tube on how to remove the rear bumper and as I found it's handy to have some one helping you to pull the bumper off and re-fit ,another tip before tighening the bolts for the bumper up try the rear sensors and make sure they are working as when i did mine nearly finished it and tried the sensors only to find that there was one pin in the connector pushed back and had to loosen the whole lot off to get at the connector to sort it out , looking at the damage why not try a bodyshop? most of the might come out with a decent sucker and hot water ?

Thanks. It's at a local bodyshop now. Weirdly, the insurance assessor that had written it off has actually stripped the car down and started to repair it. It did have some panel damage but they've already fixed it... I get the feeling I just denied someone a cheap new fabia.

yes, back looking for the rear bumper replacement here. Good news is the body shop have patched the bumper up and MOTed it, so it'll be back on the road tomorrow.

They found a monte carlo bumper comes in 4 parts, Black bottom piece, sides and the rest of the bumper. The black piece at the bottom is around £700 on its own, so we'd be looking at a £2000+ repair with all new parts, so rightly written off! (This is just for the bumper, no other crash damage on the car!). Guess it'll be a second hand one.

What is a bit of a nightmare, is that it appears the assessor has cut one of the parking sensor cables and snapped another in half, so it'll need a new one and they can't source the part. In prepping the car + respraying the assessor also debadged the back, and the TSI badge has gone too, Another phone call to insurance is in order!

Well even better than that, someone reversed into it in their landrover today… it’s only been back on the road for 15 days! What are the chances…

Ouch! How are you getting on with bumpers?

I also have a montecarlo estate, and had a little bump with a neighbour last May. Unfortunately it looks like the bumper was previously repaired rather crappily with filler which has cracked out, and so although getting it repaired is not too expensive, a new bumper is certainly better for the same price. For now its fine, just not quite flush, and sporting some duct tape.. black car though so at a distance its fine.

I've been scouring ebay and such for a replacement with little luck, the only one i found for breaking in my spec was ofcourse in a rear end shunt. But i have come across many standard estate bumpers, as mine was damaged only on the corner, all the trims are intact, do you know anything more about how the 4 pieces you mention fit together (Bonded, studs, etc), musing about if theyre in any way transferrable to a standard bumper. Sorry, i know this is a stretch!

Many thanks

I let mine go, front damage was more severe (bumper/wing/bonnet dented and latches etc) and was offered nearly the same again for write off value, except the repairs would actually have cost that this time.

Still got a 2013 elegance and someone has put the Monte Carlo back on the road, so that’s good!

The trims are bonded on and may come off but will be a job to do. Skoda were charging a fortune for the lower black trim though.
