Kessy problem

Featured Replies

Hi all, I recently bought a brand new Scala SE L 1.L. TSI and after reading the manuals I realised that the Kessy system doesn't work as it should. The doors open ok by touching the door sensor but nothing happens when touching again to lock it.

I've spoken to the dealership where I bought it cos I thought they could talk me through something I was missing somewhere but they said not and offered to pick it up to take it back and check it out but as it was over 100 miles away I declined and said I would ask my local dealer.

Does anyone know if there is anything I can do with VCDS or are there any settings in there that may need altering?

Couple of things:

You know that to open you simply grasp the door handle rather than touch the sensor? Assuming you KESSY locked the car?

You know that if you lock the car with the keyfob and then touch the locking sensor on the doorhandle the car stays locked and can only be unlocked with the keyfob?

Your only infotainment menu choices are the unlocking behaviour, either all doors unlock or only driver door (and tailgate) unlock. The book helpfully does not tell you about the tailgate!

You unlock by holding the handle, not touching the sensor. You only need to touch the sensor area indicated to lock.

I only have to move a finger anywhere near either front door handle and the car unlocks all the doors but only locks when I touch the passenger side sensor.

The key fob works as it should.

Sounds like there might be a coding issue. Let's hope the dealer is good with coding.

I still think it's worth checking the settings in the infotainment.

Thanks for That Alford but I can't see anything in the settings that addresses this issue.

Curiously, I find that if I use my right thumb on the handle to lock the doors, it doesn't always work. Pressing quite hard with a different finger seems more reliable, also using the passenger door seems better.

The problem with proximity sensors is they need to sense a change normally in capacitance. If they don't then they don't work.

I use the deadlock function rather than KESSY but that needs the door handle to "see" my finger when I touch it. Mostly it works but not always. When it doesn't work the system becomes momentarily confused.

For those unfamiliar with this semi-secret feature, lock the car with the blipper, after not less than 2 but not more than 5 seconds touch the dimple on the door handle. You will hear a second actuation of the locks. The car will now not respond to the proximity of the key, you need to press the blipper to unlock it.
