Fabia Mk2 drivers window motor maybe dead?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

A few months ago my drivers window (electric, obvs!) kept forgetting the Automatic one press state, I had to keep resetting it every time I started the car. Now the window has completely stopped working and I can hear a ticking sound when depressing the window button.
Having taken the door fascia off and located the motor (part # 6R0959802AN) I am ready to buy one from somewhere, but wanted to check that this is actually the motor that's died or if there's a potential fix for it, so does that detail above suggest that?

I've checked wiring which all seems fine, fuses are ok, the fact I can hear the ticking sound suggests to me it's a faulty motor what with the previous automatic setting not working correctly either but would like confirmation please, thanks

Unscrew the motor from the door panel and check what happens with it trying to operate without driving the mechanicals.

You'll have to reconnect the switchpack 'hanging' from the door loom, and will probably need ignition switched on to check.

Ok two things;

1. With regards to the motor I took it off and pressed the button with everything plugged it, it still makes that sound but the motor isn't turning at all. The sound it coming from inside the black casing area.

2. Upon wrestling the door cover off the Wing Mirrors connection point bust off and split apart, I've lost a little bawl-ball thing and now that's not working #facepalm

Might be the cables going to the side runners in the lower frame for the window that are sticky and are to hard for the motor to over come had this issue on a mtes car, we took the motor and runner frame out, BEWARE make sure you support the glass at the top (window closed) before taking it out of the bottom u shaped clamp part of the frame support othwise the glass will drop down into the door and could smash, we then removed the motor tested the motor and it would run no problem then we tried the runners and it was the cables that were stuck, didn't bother trying to free it up just bought a used unit from eBay think it was £35 and fitted the motor to that also noticed that the felt runner in the door frame was also very dry was going to use WD40 but thought that might swell the rubber parts so used a spray called GT85 maintance spray and this seemed to work fine

as above the motor is not turning, awaiting Petes response but I now firmly believe I need a new motor.

In the meantime I've found the part number for the wing mirror switch #5JC959565, it never rains it pours :D

Sounds like the relay within the motor module is doing the clicking, which should result in rotation, so I think it's falsely (or accurately) sensing an overload/overcurrent condition. The black rubber radial seal around the white cog sometimes gets extremely stiff, so it could just about be that, but I suspect it's more likely the result of contact burnout on that relay within the motor.

Probably most economic to try a cheap secondhand replacement like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/316982998532

I could inspect the original for you and replace that relay and anything else that looks suspect, if you wish.

I'll start a private chat with you, because you lack sufficient posts (20) to start a conversation, I think.

Ok bought a new motor but that didn't work, in the meantime the passenger window was working fine (via drivers side button) but that stopped working on Friday.....so I bought a new £5 switch off eBay which arrived today thinking that's bound to be the issue....but no that doesn't work 😢
Fuse is OK, wires all look ok and not loose....any ideas? Fearing it's a garage job now and after spending £70 on nothing I want to avoid any extra further costs if at all possible.

Anyone? The lights on the switch work when I put the main lights on so I know the switch is fine, just nothing working at all ☹️

Hi yes, after buying motors and replacing parts it turned out to be a wire in the door joint had become frayed and eventually split, £75 later for something that took 2 minutes to fix and cost 5p !

Ah ok - i've inspected the cables through the door and they all look good as new. Was your frayed cable visibly damaged/ easy to spot once you took the rubber gasket off?
