Hi, 2012 1.2tsi. Should the fuel filter be routinely changed. No problems with my car but wondering after 12+ years if i should ask the garage to do this?

It is never specified as an item to replace. I believe it is in the fuel tank and should need no maintenance. As consolation my mates Passat has the fuel filter in-line. He replaced it after 20 years and opened up the original. There was next to nothing in it in the way of debris.

Thanks edbostan, the filter is inline I believe and easy to do - especially if it is on a ramp. I have decided to leave it as it does not appear to be causing a problem.
