Columbus system dead (or flashing) and battery draining - please help!

Featured Replies

Good morning all!

As I went to drive yesterday, I heard a pulsing/drum beat type noise coming from my speakers, but noticed that the Columbus unit in my 2012 Elegance was switched off. I attempted to switch it on only to find the screen was dead. I drove home with the drum beat continuing until I stopped the car. I noticed that when I turned the engine off and took the key out, the car made one more drum beat despite having no power.

I went back out to the car later and performed a scan which came up with two new error messages:

01300 - Active/Static - Control Module for Navigation with CD Rom (J401) - sporadic 004 - No Signal/Communication.

01304 - Active/Static - Radio - sporadic 004 - No Signal/Communication.

Shortly thereafter, the car lit up like a Xmas tree with lots of errors, all connected to low voltage. From thereon, the car would not start due to battery having ran flat. The battery is only two years old.

Am I right in thinking the Columbus system is dying/has died and is causing some sort of drain on the battery? Can anyone recommend next steps?

Thanks. 🙂

You are probably right. It seems like a typical problem with dry joints in Power PIC - it must be resoldered.

I have just disconnected the Columbus head unit from the car. I need to jump it when the wife is back from work as the battery is registering 10.8v and won't turn over. I am hoping this will prove/disprove if it is the head unit and if so, I will pick something else up. Can anyone recommend anything android compatible that won't cost heaven and earth?
