OTA updates

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

First time posting here, have recently bought a 2021 Skoda Superb SE L TSI S-A 1.5.

Should OTA updates happen automatically as and when they are released? My Amundsen Mib3 unit is currently on software version 0276 which I know is quite old now, but I've seen posts here where some people seem to be getting OTA updates, while others have been updating software manually.

Do OTA updates require a level of subscription or should they be free?

Many thanks for any insight into this.

Phil

276 is a good few years old. I don’t think it’s firmware updates that happen over the air (I’ve never had them) but I think it’ll be things like maps and other Skoda connect services.

Do you have a USB-C stick about 8Gb in size? If so you can download the latest versions and update yourself. I’ve got a link with an FTP site where you can download the needed updates.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for the response. I've seen the method and the downloads for doing it manually, but I've not got the kit required to update the 5F module key to acknowledge the update.

I guess the only other way would be for a Skoda service partner to update it, but I assume that would be chargeable as the car is out of warranty.

Cheers

Phil

Hi,

It looks like I'd need the OBDeleven with a PRO plan to be able to change the 5F module key. Is that correct?

Also, many people are suggesting using a car battery charger whilst doing the updates, in case the battery discharges and bricks the unit mid update. Any recommendations on what to go for with a charger?

Thanks

Phil

What 5F module do you mean Phil?

It should be just download and unpack it on a stick, plug it into your car, hold down MENU to enter engineering mode (black screen, small red text) then hit the options to update software. I don't think there's anything else needed...

For battery chargers, only CTEK gets mentioned here and they are very good. I bought the CTEK CT5 Start/Stop which sits in the lower middle of the range; does the job for me. I ashamedly bought on Amazon.

Hi Lee,

I've read that once the software update completes, as it's not done with a Service Diagnostic Tool a fault code (B201A00) will occur. To sort this out you apparently have to update the "Confirmation of installation change" key value in the 5F module adapations with a new value you calculate with an XOR calculator. This will apparently clear the fault code. It was in a pdf file I found somewhere on this forum called "Firmware Update Guide v1.0.pdf". Might this not be correct?

Thanks for the recommendation for the charger, I'll take a look.

Cheers

There were some things needed from much earlier versions like 156 but I'm note sure when they weren't necessary; to do with FEC/SWAP codes which I think is to do with Navigation licence.

Ah found it HERE

But I've read some guy having troubles from updating 330 to 332 and that definitely is odd. I've seen plenty of updates from 278 through to 332 (you need 308 as a stepping stone) and nothing about reactivating codes or losing navigation etc.

Here's the link to my folder - it has 308, 330 and 332 in; you need 308 first then 332.

If you google the fault code there are lots of explanations about setting the key to a new hex value that you can calculate. I wonder whether it's not a thing for the MIB3 units maybe?

Thanks for the link to the updates, just grabbing 308 and 332 now.

Cheers

I'm going to take the plunge and give it a go! I've ordered the charger, I'll let you know how I get on.

Just attempted the upgrade from 0276 to 0308...but it failed while validating the files on the USB-C stick.

Below shows the results, with most sections resulting in NOK...

Not sure if I've created the USB-C correctly. I formatted as exFAT and unzipped the files as shown below...

Any ideas why this didn't work?

Looks like you’ve covered the basics re formatting and unpacking. Nothing else on the stick and those folders are in the root?

Mibhelper does mention an additional download as FAT32 so maybe try formatting as that, just as an easy variable covered.

  • Author

Yep, all formatted prior to copying the files and what you see is in the root. The only difference is the size of the USB stick is 64GB, although I used the same stick with the same formatting to update the maps a few weeks ago which worked ok, so it seems that the car can read the stick ok.

I'll try fat32, and maybe create a smaller partition just in case it doesn't like the 64GB size.

64gb should be fine as yes you have to with maps.

You could try 306 first. I’m certain 308 covered most trains before but it’s possible it didn’t go all the way back that far.

I only have 308/330/332 on my link but do you know how to get to the Preh folder on mibsolution? You could pick up 306 there for sure

Looks like my USB stick might be screwy, as I'm now getting errors copying files across and it won't delete the existing partition. Time to get another stick.

Gotcha - easy way to solve. Fingers crossed that was the problem!

Hi, what do you gain from updating the firmware?

My waze via AAwireless often has no sound so have to press and hold the power button to soft reset it which is annoying

Depends what version you have. Also depends on what MIB you have. What model and year is the car?

A quick update...with a new USB stick formatted as FAT32 I've completed the two upgrades to 308, then 332 without a problem. Many thanks for all your help in getting this sorted Lee, really appreciate it.

Phil

Brill - hope all is good from here on in! Not a problem on the help; it’s what the forum’s for. I’ve had plenty so only right to pay it forward 👍🏼

Just download the new firmware?

No need to erase the error code or do anything else special?

No, nothing else required. I personally did reset the code using a recommended OBDII scanner and free android app, but everything worked as expected before it was reset anyway - you don't get any errors/messages if you leave the code.

Jumping on this thread - hope that's OK!

I've got a 2020 Karoq which I believe is MIB2H Amundsen? Firmware is showing as 0276 and I'd like to get it updated if possible. I'm having an issue at the moment where I can't register the primary user and I want to rule out the firmware being the culprit.

Does the same logic apply about 0276 -> 0308 -> 0332 for this hardware? I assume I can get the same files linked above?

Thanks in advance.

Of course - jump in.

No you're on MIB3 with that firmware number. I'm not up on the MIB2 numbering as its different. I think you can go straight to 308 from 276 and, yes by all means grab the above files; they'll work as long as you're EU (there are Korea (KR), Japan (JP) and Rest of the World (ROW) versions according to MIB-Helper).

In case 308 doesn't go straight on - the below link has 306 in which might layer on, but try 308 first anyway. That's always been the doorway version from older to newer.

Vegarz' mega link

Process should be the same. Let us know how you get on.
