Work emails / accessing ???

Featured Replies

I have a work tablet for work email access and other work stuff .....

Question is, is it normal / usual practice to not be able to access work emails on other devices ???

I can log into my work account on my private laptop at home but I cannot see my inbox ...

Am I correct in assuming that to get access via my laptop I would have get the administrator (work) to add my device to the allowed list of devices ???

I ask as I may want to send one of the upper management a very wordy email and it would be sooooo much easier on my laptop rather than a tiny tidly iddy biddy crappy touch screen. biggrin

Thank you for advice / info.

Lots of businnesses and organisations use a dedicated VPN to access things on their company propert and websites and email servers so perhaps that's one explanation. Another may be that the email server only recognises company property to grant access.
So yes, best thing would be to speak to the IT department/ webmaster.

As above, completely normal to not be able to access without a vpn connection authorised by you employer. It’s another layer to help reduce cyber attacks.

Yes totally normal.
Often depends on type of work and types of data in use.
There are legal and regulatory concerns depending on business.
the methods chosen to manage those requirements vary from business to business.

If you want some specific advice I can do it (this stuff is my day job) but from what you have written this is more of a DSE type assessment.
Your employer has a requirement to provide you with equipment to do your job and (to a lesser or greater extent) it needs to be adaptable to your needs.
so if you have conditions which make using a tablet difficult it is not unreasonable to ask your employer to consider an alternative (i.e. work laptop).

You might want to speak to HR about it. It's no different then someone with a back problem asking for a better seat etc
