Accelerator Pedal click.

Featured Replies

Just curious if this is normal and if so what it does?

On my Elroq, Edition 60, when I put my foot to the floor, the accelerator pedal stops near the end, then I can press further through a click to go a little further. Was wondering if this is the same on other peoples cars and if so what does it do? Is it just a hard stop before max performance and pressing through the stop utilisies full power?

I've not particularly noticed it on our Mk3 Octavia or Fabia - but I believe there is a 'kickdown' switch at the lower part of travel for the throttle pedal.

I don't have my Elroq yet. Our current Renault has this (an EV) and or Fabia has it too. On the Fabia it is a 'kickdown' switch so it will force the auto gearbox to change down, though its programmed to do it anyway. I think on both, it's also to override the speed limiter, if you have set it. So for example if you are overtaking something and hit the speed limit you have set, you can push it further, and it will temporarily override that speed limiter.

I can't confirm that as I've never actually tried it, but it's what I understand.

EDIT: on other VW group cars, back in the noughties, it was definitley known as a kickdown switch. In fact on one brand that became part of VW group in the nineties, there was a phsical switch on the throttle pedal assembly before they started using VW tech. And from even longer ago, there was a mechanical link to the auto gearboxes that physically changed the hydraulics to shift down a gear.

Its a kickdown function, used for speed limiter function. Once the car reaches your pre-set speed from the cruise stalk, pressing the accelerator pedal past the click will allow the car to speed up past the set speed for instances where you need to accelerate for things like overtaking without having to disable the speed limiter on the stalk. Once your car drops back below the pre-set speed, the limiter re-enables.

My Passat B8 does the same

Yeah, this is normal, quite a few of the EVs i've driven recently have it, i think on an EV it bypasses the Eco mode and gives you full juice. My DSG equipped Superb has it as well, it's a lot of fun :D
