Oil

Is anyone's Superb using excessive oil?

My 2 litre diesel was low oil before the first service, topped it up. Now 5k KMs after the service is low oil again and topped it up again. Going into the dealer next week to check.

Same here, 2.0 TDI 150 PS.

I was monitoring oil level manually since start and added around 0.6L total for about 6000 km.

Already checked forum for Superbs MK3 and their owners are having the same problem. I think there was an information that it can consume about 1 litre of oil per 10k km...

150 or 193 PS?

Mine definitely seems to be using more than 1 liter per 10k, there's only 19k on the clock. It's a 150.

The Hungarian manual states that 0,5l / 1000km oil consumption is in the normal range.

Was the Oil level correct when the car was new or you first got it?

Are you checking with the Oil @ normal operating temperature parked on the flat after a few minutes?

Was the oil checked & topped up between being new and finding out before the first service it was low.

Engines might well use more oil in the first 5,000 km as said in the Owners Manual.

Beside were it tells you how to check the oil.

If no dipstick, then that can be an issue.

After the Service was the Oil checked stone cold, and then at Normal Operating Temperature to be sure the correct level was there from the service? Often it is not, because the PROFESSIONAL knows best. Not!

PS

Hungarian or English, it says May use 0.5 litres in 1,000 km. That is all engines.

That is not within tolerances. Normal Driving, no extremes of temperature, Not Towing an Elephant over an Alpine Pass in High Summer. Re-read the Owners Manual.

0.3 litres in 1,000 km after 5,000 miles of Running in / Driving in is too much oil used.

Get a Warranty Claim in. Get an Official Oil Consumption test. Dynamic Test.

Official Test. Costs you Oil & Filter and Labour time draining & weighing and refilling twice if no excessive oil use.

This Technician co-cked up. Engine oil @ 15oC is 856 grams not 1,000 grams.

This engine was replaced after Skoda had pointed out a muppet did the official test.

Waiting for my Superb, I’m currently running a Kodiaq 2.0 Tdi with 24000 on the clock - and it eats oil ! I’ve put more oil in this car than anything I’ve ever run ( and that includes my Mum’s 1967 Triumph Herald )

Moaned about the oil consumption every time it’s been in the dealers, the reaction ? “ Within tolerance Sir “ I stopped worrying, started buying oil in 5 litre tubs to save money and just got on with enjoying the car.

It hasn’t put me off though - the Superb Estate I’ve ordered is coming with the same 2.0 Tdi albeit down a few horses to 193 from the Kodiaq’s 200. - strangled to meet emission regs I imagine.

The chap at the motor spares shop that sells me my oil reckons VAG diesels are all. “ fill the oil, check the fuel “

It is always worth asking them to provide the Specifications and where the oil use tolerance is shown.

It is not 0.5 litres in 1,000 km. As much as they might tell you it is.

That is why Audi were shown up when BBC Watchdog did a campaign supporting owners of Audi,s with excessive oil use.

No wonder the service interval can be 20,000 miles you will have changed the oil three times already

Blimey,

I’ve ran VAG Diesels since 1993. I have never had to top up between services without a fault (1 only sump gasket failed on a B6 Passat Estate at about 110k miles.

If my new superb does drink that much oil, I’ll be well P****d 😳
