In trade insurance

Featured Replies

If a motor vehicle is in trade it doesn't have to be insured

Is this applicable if the vehicle is kept on a public road ?

Next door neighbour who i don't get on with has 3 on the street all of which according to askmid are uninsured

all vehicles on a public road must be insured

"It is a legal requirement under the Road Traffic Act 1988 to have at least third-party insurance in place for any vehicle that is driven or kept on a public road or public place, regardless of whether it is "in trade" or not"

Thanks for the reply , askmid does say you can only check your own car, would this be an issue if I was to contact the police ?

If he's a trader with the appropriate policy, they can be insured but not shown on MID, depends a bit on the policy. Ours only shows if we've specifically "fleeted" a vehicle onto the policy, but, subject to a few conditions, we're insured on anything in our custody. Road tax is more likely to be the issue because you can't use trade plates to store vehicles on the road.

The post is not about Trade Plates which allow the use of vehicles without any VED but not for private use.

It is about legitimate Traders Insurance. Vehicles and business usage in the Motor Trade, the companies or customers.

It was about a trader keeping cars on the road, insurance, and being a problem neighbour. From my standpoint as someone who trades vehicles, I'm explaining why they may not show as insured, and suggesting a different line he could go down to if he wants to raise his neighbour with the authorities.

If parked on roads just check VED status & MOT on the DVLA web page.

2 of the vehicles are showing expired tax and been reported, but mot's are OK

He's a young idiot pot head so doubt the insurance is right

Done online chat with GMP so its now in their hands

Also reported the pick up truck he uses as one of the tyres is dangerous , tread on the inside has completely gone showing the threads on the inside

This all stems from a noise nuisance dispute we've got ongoing with them , dad and lad are proper knobs , last resort will be to report him for drug driving

Any idea how long it takes dvla to respond to untaxed car reports ?

I used my local Council website to report an abandoned van. Rather than just a call to the general council number as no idea which department has the van.

It has VED & Insurance, through Council Group Insurance, because it is one of their vans that the employee leaves for days or weeks plugged into a Public Charger the Council provides.

The lead locked in and the charging is completed & the general public are deprived of using the charger.

At another charger during Covid it was left for 10 weeks plugged in and when reported to the council nothing was done.

When there was a Royal Visit coming from Edward & Sophie it was reported as a suspicious vehicle and got moved.

In my area the DVLA are around lots clamping cars.

In the past the DVLA used to notify the Local Police Station of Untaxed vehicles and when the patrols were out at night they used to check for vehicles.

The DVLA are sometimes not interested in vehicles with no VED in some regions and dead hot on them in others..

Fixed penalties are sent to Registered Keepers. That is a joke.

As is the £1,000 penaltie they can threat even when you no longer are a Registered Keeper and they know you are not.

If they're doing any work on the cars on the road like oil changes, using chemicals, not correctly disposing of waste products then going the (council?) environmental route may be more successful and perhaps quicker, Al Capone type of angle. Might also cover if the home can be used as this type of business but I don't know and the toerags will say it's unpaid work for family and friends then I think you will have to prove nuisance from this.

Good luck.
