Superb- very poor DAB radio reception

Featured Replies

I own a mk 4 superb L&K,  2.0 tdi 193hp  4x4 estate purchased july 2024

I know this is minor on the scale of things but the DAB radio function on my car is absolute rubbish and has been from day 1. The radio reception is intermittent to bad,  and pics up a digital signal only about 10% of the time, including even the good strong stations. I am reluctant to give it to the dealer who will switch the radio on, it will probably work, and they will say "what's his problem?" But honestly, it is so bad that I end up listening to classic fm, as the fm radio reception is OK. The issue is just with the DAB on the infotainment system.  My old 2017 shogun and my wife's new kia niro, used in and around the same area,  have superb radio reception (no pun intended), so it's not the lack of signal, and I just want to ask if any of you other mk4 superb owners have experienced similar issues with the DAB and is there a fix for it? Thanks in advance.

Hi Stuartie,

I had this issue with my 2016 VW Passat working intermittently for over 12 months. To cut a long story short it turned out to be the 12v to USB adapter I was using. I found the information on another forum, apparently some devices can inhibit the DAB signal so if you are using any sort of electronic devices such as dash cams etc. I would try not using them for a few days and see what happens.

Thanks Dave. As it happens I am using several other gadgets in the car. I will give this a try report back in a week or so. 🤔

Hi Dave747 and others. I tried unplugging all my gadgets to see if it aided radio reception and sadly it did not. The DAB signal is still a bit "hit and miss" and I would normally put it down to my location in Inverness, in the Highlands of Scotland but, as previously said, it does not seem to be an issue for other cars. Fyi it does the same in and around bigger cities like Glasgow too. Thanks for the tip though.

I'm in Scotland too, a bit further south of you, in Fife, but I've been north a few times this year, including the Inverness area and, other than the usual dead zones on the likes of the A9, I've not had any issues with DAB reception. My car is an SEL estate, much the same age as yours, so the setup should be the same.

My previous car was a Mercedes and I've been pleasantly surprised by how well DAB works in the Skoda in comparison to the Merc. Plenty other software issues with the Superb, but the DAB seems ok for me.

Thanks for that pgfife. As previously said my 2027 shogun, my wifes car and all my friends cars work fine, so it's not the signal up here. I am reluctant to out it into skoda as they will likely rip out the roof lining and possibly replace the shark fin antenna, and I can't be bothered with all the hassle. Thanks though. S.

If it helps, I had a similar issue and it turned out to be my fitted dashcam which had a wire running to the rear camera.
