You ever wonder if you've been landed with a friday evening car?

Featured Replies

Meaning its been at skoda garage more than it has your garage?

never had a friday night monday morning car , but my dad has many years ago , Hillman Avenger circa 1971 bought new , it had everything mechanical replaced , i.e. gearbox , rear axle etc,etc , he gave up in the end and got a austin 1300gt , why has yours been in the garage so much ?

Nope. :D mine's the epitomy of reliability. When it goes wrong, it's something I've done to it which doesn't count. :D

How reliable would you class a fabia tho. Because i was planning a trip with the lads to amsterdam, but am very very weiry about driving that distance and breaking down. No foreigh cover, thatll go down well. I had the breaks needing lookin at, had to go in for heated rear window switch sticking, breaks sqeeling, and again for clickin, they still move up and down in the caliper causing the click. Had a crank sensor play up, first time it happened i managed to get it started and get it home, went in for that and was told intermittent electrical fault, comes back out agen, then it happens again 80 miles away in southend on sea at 1 in the morning, got in my door at 5am, was not ammused, agen had to go back to garage. Then the windows start playing up, had to go in for that and got a bill for ( 2 hours labour) 150 nuggets down the drain. The power steering recently has got heavy, and looking for the tank, you need to be a contorionist to get to it. Just hope it all comes to an end soon. Gotta pay for the car for another 4 1/2 years.

why did you get a bill for the window repair if the car is still in warranty ?

You dont need to be a contorionist to get to the PAS reservior, you need to take the battery out.

I'm confident enough in the reliability to drive to germany, prague on 2 separate trips carrying only a small amount of tools and 1 spare wheel. :) It just seems to never have any real problems. Got a nice rattle coming from somewhere around the engine bay / inlet at the moment though. Small job for saturday to look into that. only does it on tickover. once any throttle is applied it stops.

Now to me that sounds a bit of a daft design lol i always thought resevoirs were supposed to be accessable at al times.

Jason, you must rack up the miles in it, im coming close to my first service and got a quote for 200 quid, another shock.

Yeah, but a 7,000 mile change (my own service schedule) only costs me about £25 for oil and £4 for a filter and I do it "myself".

Since the engine conversion, the dash read 7360. Since last September the clock now read nearly 26,000. Will be over 30k by mid September. The car itself has done about 80,000 now.

My mum's Fabia 1.4 MPI, definate Friday car.

Dont I know it....lol

My Fabia however was just fine, never let me down.

47k+ miles now on the clock.

Problems:

1. little trim came out of passenger door, fixed.

2. fuel flap cable came out, probably caused by soundproofing though, fixed.

That's it.

Not bad really :)

Mine was built the day after the Czechs got knocked out of the European Cup in 2004. And yes, it has got more niggly faults than my previous Fabia.

My previous car was a 2.0HDi Pug 206, that was in the garage every month.

Injectors failed

Diesel pump failed

power steering would jam, i.e. would work one way but then nothing the other way.

on board computer failed.

The list goes on! So I know how you feel.

The fabia on the other hand has been a total dream. In 42k+ of miles it's not needed much doing to it at all.

Replaced the head unit

Sticking rear screen switch

Passenger seat padding replaced

Fuel pump re-call.

Rear struts re-placed due to leaking (thanks for pointing that out to me stu! )

All done when it's been serviced

My previous car was a Peugeot too! It was a 406 2.2 HDI which was definitely built on a Friday. I gave up on it after the engine destoyed itself with 62000 miles on the clock. So far the Furby has been great...

Is there anyway to find out the date the car was built, eg from VIN? I'm intrigued about my old one now ;)

On mine, there were stickers with dates on them behind most panels and fittings. :) Mine was made around March 2001, but was registered in mid April which is why it comes under the new tax brackets with the CO2 thingy.

26k on the clock now and onlyissue I had was the handbrake disengaging and the car rolling back out of a space. Asked the dealer to look at it at 20k service. he said no fault found but strangely it hasnt done it since.

pretty happy to be honest, but the majority of cars I have owned have been problem free.

My experience is the opposite of you guys!

My Peugeot never missed a beat in over 200k of hard motoring, never even a clutch to be replaced!

My Skoda on the other hand has rarely been out of the Garage in only 100k of motoring:rolleyes:

16,500 now on mine. Only issues are squealing brakes (that stop squealing when you put them on!) and £500 damage when i foolishly drove into a wall).

Oh yes, and smashed foglights because the council keep putting chippings onn ALL the roads i used.

Cars been really reliable though!

Just out of interest, which Peugeot did you have? I also had a 405 which did 216,000 on the original clutch.

Mine was a 406 GLX 1.9 TD

I think the problem with cars now is that they are getting far to complicated, all this can-bus nonesense etc, obviously makes production cheaper but cars just aren't as reliable as they used to be!

If you haven't got many toys then theres less to go wrong!

Gone are the days when you could buy a Mercedes and you knew it would never let you down!!

I even put a large A4 sticker under the bonnet of my old rover 420 GSi to remind me not to touch the damn thing - Im great at undoing things but always end up with screws missing when it clunks back together (if it does)

I also stuck a sticker on my dash with a big H.G to remind me that

if I got near the red line it would probably blow the head gasket - which it did 3 times - love the K series, not
