Looking for mislaid key -- help!

Featured Replies

My wife's KESSY key fob has gone missing. Can I just check a few assumptions, to narrow down the possibilities..?

1) If she drove the car home, then she must have had the key when she got back? There's no way the car would start and be driven without the key in proximity?

2) What happens if you walk away from the car and the key is still in it? If it had fallen out of her pocket somewhere invisible around the drivers seat, would the car lock itself with the key inside after some time? Or does it do something to alert you the key's inside and not lock the doors so you're not stranded?

3) Do the mirrors fold in by themselves after a while when the key has moved away from the car, or do you have to click the lock icon on the fob to fold them?

I'm assuming that if the car was sitting on our drive locked and with the mirrors folded in when we started looking for the key a couple of hours after she got back to go out again, that the key must be in or around the house somewhere. Is that right?

And finally... is there anything you can do with the other keys or the car to make the missing fob make a sound or something to help find it?

Any corrections to the above assumptions or clever ideas about how to make it reveal itself would be much appreciated! (It's an L+K, so we have three keys in total so mislaying one is not a complete disaster, but still, it would be good to find the darn thing...)

best,

M.

Too late for the missing key, but an Apple air tag or similar might help in future?

As for your other questions, it sounds reasonable to assume that the key was with your wife when she got back home, although I think it might technically be possible to start the car, get out, leave the engine running, then get back in without the key for some reason and drive off? Seems unlikely however.

If the car is locked and the mirrors folded in, then I would assume the key must be in the house. Do you have the options set to unlock on approach and lock when walking away (with the key in your pocket)?

Too late to help with the missing key but would recommend these trackers for the remaining ones. Longer battery life than the AirTags and there are separate versions for either IOS or Android. The link is for a 4 pack of the IOS ones. Currently £20.

UGREEN FineTrack (4 Pack)... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0F82HR8QZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I have one of them stuffed into the pocket on the back of the drivers seat too. I’ve found them to be very reliable.

Have you read the online manual?

If not here are some relevant extracts re: KESSY

Automatic locking when leaving the car

If the vehicle is equipped with this function, it will automatically lock when the key is removed from the car.

The direction indicator lights flash once to confirm that the car is locked.

If the car is not locked, an audible signal will sound twice.

If there are people in the locked car and they open the door from the inside 30 seconds after locking it, the alarm is triggered.

This applies to cars equipped with the SAFE function:

After automatic locking, when the key is removed from the car, the SAFE function is deactivated.

A beep sounds once to confirm that the car is locked and the SAFE function is deactivated.

  2. Touch the sensor on the external door handle with your finger within 5 seconds.

Deactivation is confirmed by a single flash of the direction indicators.

  3. To check the deactivation, wait at least 10 seconds and then pull the exterior door handle.

    The door should remain locked.

Keyless locking is automatically reactivated after the vehicle is unlocked.

Sorry, looks like the copy doesn’t let me paste the symbol pictures…
