Stabilisation, driver & front assist errors

Featured Replies

I have a Skoda fabia 2019 1l, It’s been in and out of a Skoda specialist garage for the last few months & the fault is still occurring, everyone’s a bit lost with what to do.

The fault: stabilisation control error, stop/start unavailable, driver assist unavailable, car cuts out while driving and restarts, mostly automatically but recently needed starting with the key more. It’s impossible and scary to drive.

In trying to fix this, the car has had 2 refurbed ecu’s, fuse box/holder, new battery, idled for 5 hours in the workshop, did 2 long drives and didn’t cut out, yet a mile down the road it kicked off again.

The garage, grateful for them trying everything above so far. It’s out of warranty, i originally took it to Marshalls Skoda who diagnosed it needed a new ecu at a cost of £2.5k, so I obvs went elsewhere. Should we go to Skoda again and see what they say now? Would they know what to do or would it be a repeat of the current situation with a different garage? I’m wondering if anyone has seen this before and can advise anything that hasn’t been tried yet?

Hello, welcome to the forum.

What gearbox do you have - DSG?

What are the error codes when it was scanned for registered faults?

Was the refurbed ECUs tested?

Hi, it’s a manual gearbox. Fault code is P0606 e-prom performance/engine ecu, as far as I know the ecus were both tested, thank you

I don't understand, you say the engine cuts out while you are driving - is this while vehicle is in gear?

Yes it happens both when driving and idling

Engine shutdown while idling I can understand - but I struggle to see how this can be possible while the vehicle is running in gear unless ignition or fuel supply is being lost for significant periods.

What would you suggest to try next? I’ve had the car over 2 years and changed nothing about how I drive

If its shutting down when driving and p0606 I wonder if its a wiring issue either poor connection to ECU/broken wire or bad earth thats cutting the engine. It may be triggered by vibration/bumps in road but ok at idle. Not sure if the strip fuses beside battery feed anything that would cause shutdown. On my sons MK1 they are individual and are prone to hair line cracks that are impossible to see until removed but I think on the MK3 they are a complete sealed unit. I assume as its a new battery its reading a decent voltage etc. It may also be a software issue.

^^^ faulty power supply or ground (earth) connection is a strong possibility - another possibility is a fault with the PCM as opposed to the ECU/ECM.

Reflashing the PCM is a suggestion I have seen from a little online research, but I'd suggest checking all control unit connections first.

Checking all electrics and electronics certainly even on new, refurbed or s/h parts. Also as suggested programing /'coding' balls-up, errors and omissions, updates, are always a possibility with computer systems, thank gawd we don't rely on them.
