Blind Spot Detection

Featured Replies

I am about to downsize from my excellent Superb to an SEL Karoq. I was disappointed to find that the Karoq has no blind spot detection. Do other owners find this a problem? If so how have they overcome this.

We have both vehicles - I don't miss the lighty up mirror thing but I do miss the rear left / right beeps when reversing out of a supermarket car park........

Blindspot detection is an optional extra only on the Sportline trim. I used a few vehicles with it, it's handy but it's more like a helping hand, and than a necessity for me. My 2018 Karoq doesn't have one, and I'm completely fine without it. It does have a camera, which is a lot better than just the sensors.

Same way before, blind spot checked by looking over shoulder. Even if my car had it I wouldn't trust it, and would still do a manual check.

I retrofitted on my Style (the line before the Sportline) and it works fine, apart the time lost to find the right way to retrofit it!

I also have retrofitted the park assist and the area view 360°, and combination of cameras and sensor is just priceless!

Never had it on any car so don't miss it. As @sussamb says, given how the other Skoda "aids" are prone to error, I wouldn't trust it either.

As Mrsecretpotatoe said, Blind Spot Detection is only available as part of the Travel Assist Package Plus option, at £635 incl VAT, and then only on the SportLine trim. Given that it's standard on many other makes and models, this is annoying.

I don't find it annoying. Too many things added to cars these days that are a waste of time and simply more things to go wrong. I go for the least specced model I can find, probably why our Karoq is over 7 years old and been bombproof, as is my 3 year old Kamiq.

Between having or not having it, I'd choose having! if I found it distracting I'd simply disable it...

Benja77. That very impressive. I don't suppose it was easy - have you described how you did this. elsewhere on Briskoda and was it costly to do. I wouldn't mind all those features too, as long as they work well.

I find most of the 'advanced' features I already have on my Karoq SE Tech work pretty well and have done so for 6.5 years - including the controversial adaptive cruise control - but that's clearly not everyones cup of tea. However, I wouldn't take any of these features 100% for granted, they just remove some of the strain & frustration when driving and provide extra checks.

@croquemonsieur It was not easy, You're right! I was lucky I found the mirrors with side cameras used and in very good conditions and very affordable price (450 EUR shipped for both, while one costs over 6/700), apart the motor for the right glass, which I replaced from the old one.

What makes me, let's say, "angry" was the behaviour of the first mechanic: he kept the car in the workshop for 4 weeks and he put hands on it for less than one, when he gave it back to me, several ADAS not working (when I brought the car they did) and didn't want to solve the problems (but he wanted to be paid as he had done the whole job) and he did not! wanted to put a different sound amplifier from that one we agreed saying it was more powerful (but it wasn't and it was out of production since 3 years!), put the power line of the master radar on the slave one and didn't want to admit he was wrong!

The second one, instead, asked me (in proportion) less than half from the first one and spent almost 2 weeks trying to fix all the mess of the first one, reconstructing all the can and power lines, confrontating all the time with me with a friend of mine who knows quite well OBD11 and VCDS, and, not less important, he told me that thanks to this retrofit he learned on VAG cars as never.

Last but not least, before making the retrofits (and if You read my posts You know how many I did!) I informed if I can make them and what pulled me is also the fact I got an ex-demo/test ride car, owned by dealer and sold at almot half of the price if bought new (and without all the extras I found instead, like the travel assist, the virtual pedal just to say some of them) with very few km on the meter (25.000 in 4 years!)

3 years sorry, as the car was produced on 3/2022 and I own from 12/2024

Benja77. Thanks for the information, but seems way beyond my abilities - a pity.

@croquemonsieur just have a look, sometimes, on site for spare parts, the right deal will come!
