Mk1 Fabia leak into drivers footwell

Featured Replies

Hi. I was wondering if anyone could offer advice on tracking down possible source of leak.

The carpet in the drivers' side footwell seems wettest and its also bit damp in the rear footwell behind. Can't see any obvious drips or source but would be helpful to know where to start looking in more detail. Likely candidates etc

Car has 70k miles on it - half of that has been put on in last 2 years. It was garaged before we got it. Bodywork seems to be in very good condition, very little sign of rust underside, but seals are all 20 years old...

Many thanks. Any advice very much appreciated

Graha,

Maybe the scuttle tray drain is clogged under wipers area. My octavia used to leak there and the drains were clogged. Chances are that its coming in at driver side and soaking back into rear. Another place they can leak is if the plastic door card seal has come loose and the water can travel down via window seal. I would have a look at the scuttle area first. Dont suppose theres a sunroof?

Great. Thanks a lot. I’ll take a look Friday. No, no sunroof. G

Look at the horizontal bits of each of the seals that the doors shut onto.

Any with little puddles on have leaking ancillary carrier seals on that door.

Rears are most common.

Quick update. It’s been wet lately but door seals seem dry. Cleared the scuttle drain holes from the wheel arches. Packed on drivers side but clear on other. Hopefully will sort it for a while but I suspect there’s a lot more crud in there that’ll wash down. Gave up trying to get the wiper arm off on the drivers side - nearside came off OK but not shifting on this side. Can’t get my puller in place - suspect I’ll have to take bonnet off but that can wait. Happy Christmas

Had the same problem with my sons rear wiper. Absoloutely solid. I just kept spraying with wd40 for a few days and finally managed to carefully remove it. Tricky to use puller as nothing to grab I normally put a small smear of copper grease when replacing them.
