Octavia Sat Nav

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how to reset your Sat Nav location. My location is currently flying over fields or in the Ocean. My 15 reg has an SD card from 2021 and went squiffy a couple of weeks ago. I've tried holding buttons down to try a re-sent with no success.. any advise is appreciated, otherwise I'll buy a new card if there's a more recent one available? Thanks in Advance...

Hello, welcome to the forum.

You shouldn't need to reset your location - the GPS receiver does all the locating automatically when it boots up and 'sees' sufficient satellites for a fix.

Most likely you have a problem with your GPS antenna.

What is your vehicle and what infotainment system - Amundsen MIB2?

Yes I think the later. I managed to press (several times) accidentally as I have an rsi in my hand, and the screen froze for a while... then continued. My location arrow is now 10-15 miles off course. I can use all other Sat Nav functions as normal. (Octavia estate, 2015)

It might be worth checking what version of firmware you are running on your MIB2 system. There might be a bug stopping the system from working correctly. Press and hold MENU, go to system and version information and make a note of what the current firmware is. I have seen these inaccuracies before on the MIB systems and as the previous responder stated, they usually (eventually) correct themselves.

On one of the GPS screens (in settings/split-screen, I think), there is a function that displays the number of satellites currently in view - if an antenna fault is causing your issue, this will show how many are being received.

I've been through all the options in Settings and I've never seen anything telling me about satellites available. Car is 2015 model so not quite at the tech spec of current models. Thank you I will definitely check again 👍

Thank you. I know where to find the version reference, I think I'll see if there's a new card available as the sat navs been like it for a couple of weeks, and I've previously looked up how to reset the sat nav function but doesn't seem to work... I'll check again though, thanks for your advise... 👍

I am almost certain that a faulty SD card will not cause the issue you report - but an antenna fault definitely will.

If you can confirm that your system is Amundsen MIB2, I will check mine and report back on how to view the satellite information.

To view satellites being received if your system is Amundsen MIB2.

Boot up Navigation,

Activate bottom task bar with gesture,

Touch 'View',

Menu box will display options (Auto; Day; Night; Split-screen; POIs)

Select Split-screen (tick box),

this will display a box on screen showing Lat/Long; Altitude and a satellite dish symbol, GPS - (X/X) being number of satellites currently in view.

If this display shows between 0/0 and 2/2 you are not receiving signals from sufficient satellites to fix your position.

The GPS antenna on the estate (combi) is the 'shark fin' at the rear on the roof and there is some history of the PCB in the antenna base being damaged by water ingress.

Currently 0/16 satellites 🛰 explains alot. Also we are in a very poor area for phone signal..

Not sure what any of this actually means...thanks in advance 👍

I think a scan of the car with ODBEleven or VCDS to see if the GPS receiving circuits have failed - is probably a good first call. The MIB system will report this to the car if it has problems in that direction.

Cellphone signal strength is immaterial for GPS - it needs a clear view of the sky.

I'd suggest you first need to get the GPS antenna checked.

From the Lat/Long displayed on your post, it would appear that your receiver is receiving some basic positioning data - but not sufficient to get a proper fix, this would tend to reinforce the likelihood of an antenna fault to me.

From your post, was the vehicle somewhere near Lawrenny at the time?

As the crow flies less than a mile...

But at other times it's been up to 15 miles off centre

Moisture in the antenna base on the roof.

My Amundsen+ satnav in my mk2 occasionally throws a hissy fit like this, had me somewhere in the British midlands once, while I was driving around near home in South Tipperary… Ireland…

A lovely part of the country where some pretty decent people come from IMO.

Not that I'm a little biased 😛
