Tailgate failure - how do I find the OEM number for a replacement

Featured Replies

Hi, this is my first time posting and I'm hoping that some of you can help and offer some advice. We have had this car for a few months and the boot has failed. It releases the catch and you can hear a motor working but it doesn't raise, if we lift it it does then stay raised by won't close. It was booked in with Skoda last week to replace the steering wheel volume control button (£440 later) but they initially said to look at the boot it would be another £167 diagnostic fee!! However they did then give a price to replace the left hand strut for £900 so I'm assuming they did look at it and have diagnosed the strut as the issue. After lots of googling I think we can do this ourselves but what I want to make sure is that I've got the correct OEM number for it but I now can't find the website I found this from to double check. I believe it's 3V9827851B but I emailed Skoda and they said they aren't allowed to give part numbers. Can anyone help please? Thanks

In 90% of cases, it's a broken cable. Remove the grommet from the body and pull out the cable. Probably 2 or 3 wires are defective. Repair takes about 30 minutes per side.

I assumed that this noise in the video is a motor trying to work and so the cables are all OK? The boot opening in the video is from me doing it manually.

Just an update in case anyone else is finding a similar issue...we checked the cables and they were all intact. We bought a replacement strut from Amazon and fitted it very quickly and easily and is now working perfectly.
