DQ381 mechatronic oil seal replacement

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have a question on the oil seal replacement.

I recently went for a DSG oil change, but they found a slight leak in the oil seal covering the mechatronic unit. Unfortunately, the replacement part for the oil seal wasn't in stock, so the workshop suggested going ahead with the oil change and replacing the oil seal later when the part arrives.

Before the oil change, I asked the workshop if the oil needed to be drained again, and they said it didn't.

Now that I've had time to reflect and do some research, I can't help but wonder if I was given incorrect advice at the workshop.

I'm wondering how they're going to do this when the mechatronic itself is in oil? 🤔 It shares the same oil with the DSG clutches.

Or am I in mistake and there is a way this to be done?

It should be my workshop that's mistaken. The oil seal has since arrived and I would need to go the workshop to sort out this mess

Unless they’re entirely unconnected maintenance-wise, gut feel would be that there’ll be (chargeable) time saved doing it all in one go rather than doing one then the other…unless it’s going to take a significant amount of time getting the part I’d hold off personally.
