Front window won't close

Featured Replies

I left my front drivers window open for a couple of weeks while away, and I now have a footwell full of water. That's OK, the problem I have is the front window now won't go up. I've removed the switch from the door, and tipped out the water, and have ordered a new one. However, I can't raise it at all. The question - can I short across any of these terminals to send the signal to do it?

Much appreciated if you can help.

thanks, Roger

If you have the original switch, it may still be recoverable. Dry it out, use some contact cleaner and see if it works again. New switches are not expensive. Depending on your model of car, some came with a two stage switch and others with just a one stage switch. Two stage switches have an occasional open/close AND a one touch close/open. One stage switches only have occasional open/close switches.

Many thanks for the reply. I opened the switch up and everything was very corroded inside, so I just ordered a new one which was cheap enough. I didn't understand there were two types, so fingers crossed I got the right one.
cheers

If you have opened up the switch, use some Holts Electrical contact cleaner and some cotton wall buds to clean out the contacts as much as possible.
