Octavia (2.0 TDI PD 170 vRS 5dr)

Featured Replies

Hello

I am in the process of helping my friend purchase a car and my suggestions had been down the Mondeo route in the vain of the ST 2.2 TDCI

I then went down the skoda route and happened to come across the above on drive the deal website.

I knew it was coming out but I thought it was nearer Christmas. However it is now quoted on Drive the deal website (with no discount) at

Taking orders for August I think.

Nobody has driven them yet so we don't know how it'll turn out , but the PD140 engine is good as is the handling and interior of the petrol VRS .

I'd expect it to be a very good car , but I'd hold off buying one for a couple of months if possible to make sure you get a decent discount if thats what they go for.

The mondeo is also a decent car , but it's been around for quite a while now and is due to be replaced before too long.

You'll get a bigger discount on the Mondeo which is a fantastic handling car. You'll probably get a good deal on the finance as well if you haggle hard.

Been getting quotes of about

SEAT Leon 2.0 TDI FR (170 bhp...same engine as upcoming Octavia)

List is

Just remember your big up front discount becomes your heartbreak part - ex value in 3 years' time - especially with the Mondeo and Vectra!

I'll have my 1st 170 TDi vRS in stock by mid September - Red with cruise and 18" alloys.

He who pays makes his own choice at the end of the day. Not sure Jeremy Clarkson really understands the concept of 'slow in, fast out'. I wouldn't put too much faith in his opinions, but I might listen to Sabine, the German lady who showed him how to drive around The Ring. Sir Jackie Stewart would also bear listening too IMO, he was excellent when he taught James May how to drive around a track.

So does anyone know if the new TDI VRS will have the option of the dsg box?

Doubt it.

that vectra must be really cack, it should easily be able to go round corners!!

or could it be that jeremy clarkson was acting a **** and turned in quick all the way to full lock whilst planting his foot in 2nd with the traction control off?

any FWD with 250+bhp as standard is going to spin the hell out of the front wheels if driven like that. JC just hates the vectra so made it look bad

How about a 2.0 Fabia? Faster than a Mustang donchaknow :D

Civic? Or is that too small? Accord? Mazda 6? 320d?

I'd go for the Mondeo :D

Thanks for all your replies.

Ny friend has taken stock and it looks like the Vrs Octavia:) He is going to go for the Petrol version even though he prefers diesel as he will secure a small discount and to recoup the differnce in fuel will take him a while.

He is going to go for the Estate version.

I am really lazy but I have been on the skoda web site, is climate standard or is it like the air con in the fabia?

He is thinking of going for the 18" inch and metallic, probably blue.

Well the good news is that my friend finally went for the Octavia Vrs Estate in black. He got a cracking deal and picked the car up today (brand new in stock).

He gave me a go and I want one:)

His name is Peter and he has joined the site and will introduce himself and upload pictures of the car in the next few days.

He tried various other cars including a Vectra V6 3.0 Diesel estate. The engine in that was great but the interior was such a let down in Sri trim.

He tried the Mondeo as well and to be honest he was hugely disappointed with the 2.2 diesel 155 bhp ST model. Car felt solid enough but just missed something.

So he is now driving a petrol again, the price difference was not enough to justify waiting for the diesel and not getting a good deal that he did.

Cheers

Tony

I've just sold my Mazda6 after over 100K miles. I would've got another one but got the Octy as I just fancied a change.

IMO, it's a much better driver's car than a Mondeo. Superb handling and feels much more powerful than it's BHP figure would suggest. Plus the Mazda looks nicer, top notch build quality and is super reliable.

The recent face-lift is also a vast improvement. Also, it's very well equiped.

With good residuals as well, it's a no-brainer really.
