Motorshow - quite good!

Featured Replies

Just been down to docklands to see the show at excel. (travelling by train)

CRAP TRAIN

Reminded once again what a s**tty transport system we have - metropolitan line disrupted. Jubilee line signal failure. No aircon in tubes so b**dy hot! ah well...

VENUE

Its a great venue- test tracks (all really busy) off road adventure - waterskiing ladies in 3 stack pyramids etc.......

Massive halls - saw MX5 hardtop which looks great -

New Maybach coupe thing ( which is massive and awesome)

and generally loads of other good stuff - Well worth a tenner.;)

CARS

Favourite affordable cars I sat in.......(liking my comforts)

Volvo T5 - So comfy and about 150mph!

Peugeut 407 coupe (very nice) - Wow! 3.0l V6 yum

Peugeut 607 (so comfortavle) - I have never had a peugeut and yes i realise it would depreciate like a bitch and fall apart but really comfy- (my days of GTI's have gone)

Those new Seats are really flimsy - I always loved the old Leon but the new Altea and Leon feel so flimsy and cheap and nasty YUCK!

JAG X-type - does feel like a mondeo inside (first time in one)

Saab - Love the double sun visors (one for side ,one for front)

Mazda- 4 door (mazda 6 sporty thing i think) That was cool

Noble M15 - WOWOWOW What a car - looks gorgeous and its reletively cheap! All i need to do now is sell my house, live in a caravan and then I could have one! Easy!

OVERALL FEELING

Every car seems so dull these days- You sit in one - then another and without the badges you'd be hard pushed to know which is which ( which is why I liked the Volvo and Saabs as they tried something different in their cabins) .

Very few seemed to have the roominess of my Octavia and going to the motorshow just shows how similar modern car design is.

However It was a fun day out.

Tips: take your own sandwiches as lunch is quite expensive and plenty of water.

Was there a new Bentley of some sort there? A customer was feverishly working away on it 24/7 for most of last week. WHen I saw it last it was still unpainted and only half welded

Pah I was meant to be going today with me brothers.

how many big maufacturers missing?

I'm off there tomorrow

I am wondering whether the mazda track drive (zoom zoom challenge!?) and land rover's off road adventure is free or not?

I didn't look much at the Bentleys, so sorry I dont know if they had a new one.... I saw the old continental GT (which I believe was designed by the same guy as the Octavia) but didnt really look as I'm not likely to be able to afford one!

However, I believe the Mazda track (Zoom Zoom) is free but get there really early and register your details - then you might get a shot at going round the track - Have fun!

Remember to wait for the rain at the MX5 hard top stand - you'll see what I mean!

Manufacturers missing erm...... Skoda, Audi, B'mers are Outside, didn't see Ferrari but there is a paddock full of them, thats about it..... Worth a look about 8/10

Not a patch on the NEC IMHO.

The Zoom Zoom challenge is booked up from EARLY so go there absolute 1st thing - yes it's free.

Poor showing from manufacturers too - plus for me the travel made it a ballache too. Hate London and it's transport systems :(

A lot of people I spoke to there said the same - nice try, next time won't bother unless it's out of London.

I think its a great idea.... put the motorshow in the middle of a city that hates cars, next to a river, in one corner of the country

The stupid thing to do would be to put it nearer the middle of the country, somewhere with ample parking that people could drive to easily ;)

It's a doddle to get to - what are you lot complaining about i went on Sunday evening, left home at 4pm, drove straight through the centre of town, got there at 5pm.

Millions of times better then the NEC - i parked about 100m away from the entrance (didn't have to wait for a stupid bus to take me!) plus it only cost a fiver to get in (£5 after 5pm and its open till 9pm - load of time to look around).

.

Tons of nice cars to look at. Loved to Toyota DJ car :)

Next potential car for me i think to replace the Explorer is probably either the H3 Hummer or a Dodge Nitro :D

Also got to skip the entire queue to the off-road 4x4 playground thing (whatever its called) by getting a free priority ticket from some Kia bloke - that was an amazing ride and I would recommend doing it if you go!

Dave's next car:

Went on 1st day got discount too:D heres a "few" photos (too many to show) i took later in the evening when it was a bit quieter:thumbup: funny how the Alfa Brera broke on the 1st day! there was also a self parking prius and my favorite car at the show had to be the Saab Aero X concept.:)

The Volvo in picture 34 is very nice!

you have done your research!;)

The Volvo looks to have vRS wheels on it... :)

Ish.

Where's Excel? Is it another name for the infamous dome?

Dome is Greenwich, south of the Thames. Excel is Docklands, north of the Thames but almost opposite the Dome.

I've been to the Excel centre for Golf shows. It's a great exhibition centre thats clean, presentable and plenty of toilets. Food there is expensive...but then almost captive audience. However the noodle bar at the opposite end to the river I found pretty good value.
