I've seen a couple of threads recently, talking about 'claying'.

Can someone give me a brief description of this cleaning method......is it any good and what sort of effort is involved?

It involves rubbing a special putty-like substance over the paintwork to remove contaminants etc. It's quite hard work, but you don't need to do it often, and the finish you get critically depends on preparation like this.

Its awesome, I did it for the first time this weekend just gone... Amazing results, great for preperation of polish and wax

I used Meguiars Quick Clay £12.99 iirc - I think its pretty good for beginners.
