Enyaq Sat Nav issue

Featured Replies

Afternoon all.

My Enyaq was at main dealer this week for a number of things, one being the satnav playing up.

When stationary, e.g. lights, roundabout etc for a period of time, the nav locates OK. As soon as vehicle starts moving, the nav goes off on it's own losing the correct location.

The dealer stated (not sure how they tested) it needed a new GPS aerial and OCU battery.

Could possibly understand an aerial but my belief is the OCU battery is for the emergency call system ??

The price to do this is nearly £800 !!! The dealer justifies this by saying the OCU battery replacement requires the dash to be remove, hence a lot of labour charge.

Anybody have similar experience and get sorted by same or alternative method please ??

Is this under warranty - or is it chargeable to you?

I'd certainly insist on only the GPS antenna being replaced initially.

According to an online search, VAG OCU does not have a battery - either incorporated or separate - it uses vehicle power supply!

If this is true, I'd suggest changing to another Garage.

Further research suggests that my original answer regarding OCU backup battery is AI generated and incorrect.

Still believe that failing OCU battery (if true) is not contributing to your GPS location error.

Unfortunately now out of warranty.

My thoughts were going GPS only first up.

Is there any 'coding' to the vehicle required or just swap over plug and play ??

I am finding it hard to think that a) this has failed as still have SOS functionality and b) I fail to see how this battery has anything to do with GPS ??

I rather suspect state of OCU battery does not affect GPS - and it also may not affect SOS capability in normal conditions, it is a backup to enable coms if the vehicle loses 12 volt power, for instance, in a collision.

There's a good chance that the Dealer suggesting OCU battery replacement wants to fire the parts cannon.

Have emailed Skoda UK to clarify whether OCU battery affects satnav.
