Upgrading infotainment from Swing to anything that allows CarPlay

Featured Replies

Hi!
I had bought my Fabia mk4 during the pandemic, when the waiting time for a custom order was stated as more than 6 months, and instead I chose to buy the display model used by the dealership.
The car is absolutely beautiful, it was stated to be in the Style configuration, and when I asked the salesman if I would be able to have navigation on it he said "of course".

However as soon as I bought it and sat in it for the first time I realised I couldn't. It was fitted with the basic infotainment available for the fabia mk4, which is the Swing.
When I complained at first they told me they just needed to install "Smart Link" on it, and carplay would become enabled. I brought the car back for the service, and after two hours of trying they finally realised it couldn't be done for the infotainment in my car.

Ever since then I've been struggling with phone mounts that keep falling off in the summer heat, and have been searching for any possible solution.
I even called another dealership asking if they would upgrade my infotainment to Bolero or anything else that supported Carplay, but they said they can't do it, and maybe I could find a private garage that woould add a knockoff android system for me (voiding my warranty in the process, I'm sure).

Does anyone have any ideas, or similar experience? Is it possible in any way to upgrade the infotainment in my case? I wasn't able to find any information online for the Fabia mk4, no android systems or anything else either.
For additional context, I live in Croatia, but might even be willing to travel somewhere if it fixed my issue.

Appreciate you all!

The size of the Fabia "Swing" unit's display is 6.5". So, if you are primarily interested in having a satellite-navigation capability, you might consider using a stand-alone sat-nav device with a similar size screen - eg. a Garmin DriveSmart 66 - and have it sit on a 'bean-bag' mount on the dashboard.

Evidently the Swing unit in your 2022 Fabia cannot be tweaked to run Apple CarPlay and replacing that unit would be a task that Skoda dealerships are most unlikely to agree to carry out (as you've found). A stand-alone sat-nav would work immediately, require no surgery or significant rewiring and have life-time map updating.

Regarding the phone-mount, this earlier discussion may be of interest

I bought a Yesido C242 mount very cheaply through the advert below and shortened slightly the part that attaches to my car's central air vent so it gets a better grip.
