Brand new Tavia Rs with a noise !!!HELP

Featured Replies

Hi i just taken delivery of a tavia Rs and as a newbie to this car there is a noise that im not sure if it should be there so here goes.

On idle there is a constant ticking noise coming from a black cannister fitted to the front n/s inner wing you can hear this over the engine noise i did ring my dealers they said it was a solinoid and this was ok !!

IS THIS TRUE and should it make a noise.

Thanks Dave.

Yes I have the same noise, bloody irritating isnt it. You would expect with a modern engine it wouldnt make a silly ticking noise. I was advised by a few people on here, it is the injectors firing.

Anyone know if the s3, tt or leon cupra has the same noise?

I think the noise comes from a solenoid associated with a carbon filter and is part of a system for recirculating petrol vapour back into the fuel tank. It's more obvious some times than others and is absolutely normal. There are a couple of other noises which are normal but which can worry you. The first is a diesel-like clatter immediately on startup. This disappears after a few seconds and I believe is to do with the hydraulic tappets. The second is a turbo-like whine from the front of the engine. This is a secondary air pump which operates immediately after startup for a short period.

Stop worrying and enjoy your car, Dave, and welcome to Briskoda too! :D

at 1.8T tick it is the injectors firing... remove the engine cover and it gets louder... chip it .. it gets louder.. fit bigger injectors it gets louder... throw the car in a ditch and it goes quiet.

i will try and avoid throwing the car in a ditch !!

im sure the outcome would be worse then i ticking noise.

Thanks Dave..

Hi all

I think the two noises mentioned - 'ticking' sound from fuel injection prv - and 'diesel' sound on start up have been mentioned a few times but it is always reassuring to hear that others have experienced the same. I remain surprised that with today's technology either should occur.

Nevertheless the vrs is a wonderful car.

One slightly frustrating sound I hear whilst driving is a resonance from the handbrake relaese button, is this common or just my car.

The first is a diesel-like clatter immediately on startup. This disappears after a few seconds and I believe is to do with the hydraulic tappets.

On the 1.8T thats usually the cam chain tensioner. Common fault.

Yes, I have the same anoying ticking fault from the black canister to the left of the engine bay. My car is about 6 months old, with 8K on the clock, can't say I'd noticed the noise as much prior to the cold weather, I was about to take it to the dealer, but seems like a common problem/or no problem?

From feedback so far I would say that there is no problem and that it (ie the valve in the activated charcoal cannister) is working as it should.

My car was in at the local dealer the other day for some other work. I asked about the ticking noise as well. The dealer confirmed that it was the active charcoal filter making the noise.

Andy

Can vouch for the ticking noise and diesel start, though it only lasts a spit second with the long life oil as the hydraulic tappets pressurise quicker I guess.

Sorry to hijack this thread, has anyone experienced slight loss in acceleration recently?

seems to be a bit sporadic really???? I sometimes wonder if it's just me being fussy though???? :insane:

After reading another thread on this forum I suspect it is related to the N75 or DV.

The problem has now gone away buy I suspect there will be an error code stored on the computer.
