Hi, sorry if this topic has been posted a number of times, but I have a query about timing belt intervals on a 2019 Octavia estate SE L TDI 150 AUTO. It has just been in for its MOT and service, and I also asked them to have a look at the timing belt. I'm sure I read somewhere that the interval was 100k miles, and as mine has now done 91k, it would need doing in the not too distant future. However, although they gave me a quote (£750 for timing belt and water pump), they told me the interval is now 140k. Is this right? If so, then, although I wouldn't wait until it hit 140k, it does seem I don't need to think about it just yet.

The interval did change on the later EA288 2.0 TDI's which is when VAG moved to the check at 140k miles guidance IIRC. I personally wouldn't leave it that long though. Most places will still recommend around 100-120k.

Depending on the mileage you do per year, you're probably good for another year or two. I wouldn't worry too much about it yet, but it's worth planning for it.

Thanks, I do about 12k a year (motorway miles), but if it could be put off for another 12 months or so that would be good.

Mine was replaced at 105k (6 years old) and it was starting to fray but the garage did say that was unusual.

Thanks, think I will look at doing mine at around 100k which should be early next year.

It depends if its been changed previously and if they used a decent quality belt. My octavia mk2 had been done at 50k (not by dealer) but I did it again myself when I bought it at 90k to be on the safe side. The belt that had been fitted wasnt one I had heard of (Stark?) and didn't look very good with slight cracking. I replaced with gates kit and still do mine around every 60k or 6 years. The original belt according to skoda should be fine but as said 140k I think is pushing it . Check the service history to make sure it hasnt been changed already.

It hasn't been changed before. I bought the car in January 2020 at which point it had done 6500 miles.

My TDI is approaching 210k km and then belt/pump/rollers will be replaced for 1st time.
