Hi new Octavia owner here (2019 stop/start) and enquiring about the battery. My colleague had to fork out nearly £500 for a new battery for her Octavia (at a main dealer). Are they that expensive?

No, more like £150-£200 plus 5 minutes coding the battery management system.

Try https://www.tayna.co.uk/ There pretty reasonable price wise and quick delivery. You would need to get battery coded though but may be cheaper.

Yes I bought one for my last 19 plate 1.5tsi Octavia, I paid £170 for if with a 3 year guarantee, inc coding in, it was an EFB battery. I just used my local motor factors. I recently paid £200 for an AGM battery inc coding in from the same place for or other car (mini), same place. That took longer to change, as the engine bay was full of plastic.

Do you think you need a battery, or is it just an enquiry?

It can be coded with OBDeleven, which I have. I’m 20 miles south of Sheffield.

I think my battery is close to failing. The start-stop system is permanently auto inhibited and the cranking sounds laboured. Resting voltage is 12.05 and 15.03 with engine running. Existing battery is a Varta AGM and deciphering the datecode would imply it is the original, having a manufacture date of October 2015.

Nearest independent Skoda specialist has quoted £250 for Yuasa or £330 for Skoda original, (which I assume is a Varta) including coding.

Does this all sound reasonable to experts in this forum?

Depends on if its EFB or AGM and size/make of battery. Quick look and if its an 096 Tayna batteries are £100 aprox for varta 096 EFB and £125 aprox for varta 096 AGM. Try puting reg in at tayna and see what they come up with. You may be cheaper buying and fitting it yourself and paying to get it coded.

Tayna Batteries supply either a Bosch or Varta (essentially the same battery) for less than £120. I can also find you a 5% discount code, if you’re interested.

Edit: this is the discount code - NUMBER27YT

Added code

I recently had battery failure on my original battery that had lasted since 2016. Fitting is easy 10 minutes at most. 10mm for battery terminals, 13mm socket on long extension bar for clamp on the battery tray.

Yuasa AGM 096 battery from Halfords was £165 with a discount. I have VCDS software so my coding was free,

£250 from an indy sounds about.

Thanks for replies thus far! Unfortunately I have a concern regarding the replacement battery exact version. The "096" as recommended here also features with several vendors when I enter the registration number into their websites. However the fitted battery seems to be different, yet its manufacture date match the first registration of my Scout. Is the "096" an upgrade compared to the "7P0 915 105" currently fitted?

Think its the same as 096 size. From memory 096 is uk identification. Have had a few varta/bosch batteries with different numbering. As long as the physical dimension size is the same/terminals in the correct place and type and ah/amps are the same(or pretty near) it will be ok. The one you have fitted according to google is a glass mat battery.

You can buy and fit yourself, get the basic ObdEleven reader, pay approx £5 for 1 credit and code the battery yourself, the battery type "AGM" stays the same but by changing the capacity - a new one will be 70 or 72ah, the serial number also changes.... telling the BMS it has a new battery, this must be done even if capacity and type are the same.

Takes 10 mins.

You'll then have a device that can read errors in future and do things like prime fuel system when changing a filter.
